It is now in the Unitary Authority of North Lincolnshire. Formally known as Glanford Bridge, it is a crossing point on the River Ancholme, the straightest river in the country. Brigg Fair was an important event in the Gypsy calendar, and is still an annual horse fair. Joseph Taylor could only remember two verses of Brigg Fair, although he thought that another verse went on to tell of the couple walking along the Wrawby Road. Grainger filled out the song with three floating verses from songs collected in Sussex, but they have no local colour. Set against some features of Brigg, this is what I think really happened.
