Heads up for anyone who may be interested - Tonight (7 August) on Sky Arts (Freeview Channel 011) 9pm - Southern Journey (Revisited)

On a journey through Virginia to Mississippi, this film explores the sounds and history of the Southern States by retracing the steps of musicologists Alan Lomax and Shirley Collins.

I enjoyed the film. I would have liked it to be longer and to have had more music though.

This review from Uncut magazine gives a good idea of the film.

Southern Journey (revisted) - Uncut review

This is from the review.

"The picture that emerges will ring true to anybody who has visited these places – the locals are far smarter than often given credit for, unaffectedly proud of their traditions, and more or less bottomlessly hospitable."

I also liked the "hipster doofuses” comment from one of the contributors.
