Subject: Song Identify: From Hamish Macbeth TV Show From: GUEST,Snizort Date: 19 Aug 21 - 01:47 PM I recently watched the (1997) Hamish Macbeth episode "The Good Thief" where there is a singing competition between local kids in the highlands of Scotland. I would love to know what is the main song played at the end -- at 44:08 -- https://youtu.be/6GM6tsKhPhk?t=2648 I imagine that it is an old Scottish Gaelic song that's sung by the boy and recomposed for the credits. Can anyone help identify? Thanks much! -S |
Subject: RE: Origins: Song sung in Hamish Macbeth TV Show From: GUEST,# Date: 20 Aug 21 - 11:30 AM I understand that there is an app(?) done by Google or Google Chrome wherein one can submit a melody and search for a song that way. I'd link to one but I have no idea how it works. From a post in another thread, I think punkfolkrocker would be able to supply more information about it. Other than that, I have no idea about the melody or song, sorry. |

Subject: RE: Origins: Song sung in Hamish Macbeth TV Show From: GUEST,# Date: 20 Aug 21 - 12:47 PM Hi, ottery. Great work. Regarding the link in your second post, it doesn't work. I don't think hot links can be done for other Mudcat threads. If you could just post the 'thread address' without trying to hot link it then it should be available. |
Subject: RE: Origins: Song sung in Hamish Macbeth TV Show From: GUEST,ottery Date: 20 Aug 21 - 12:50 PM Thanks for the explanation of the failed link! I'm 34 years old. Mudcat tech scares me. Here's the link, which hopefully works this time: https://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=170047&messages=5 The title of the song is Failte Do'n Eilean Sgiathanach |
Subject: RE: Origins: Song sung in Hamish Macbeth TV Show From: GUEST,# Date: 20 Aug 21 - 01:01 PM That works, ottery. Thank you. :-) I'm old enough to remember looking at an Apple IIe and thinking it would 'never get better than this', so believe me when I say I understand completely. |
Subject: RE: Origins: Song sung in Hamish Macbeth TV Show From: Helen Date: 20 Aug 21 - 03:04 PM The Mudcat linkmaker - see Make a link ("blue clicky") below the Submit Message box at the bottom of the thread page - has this quirky thing where you have to remove the https://mudcat.org/ part of the address because that part is automatically added. I usually forget to do that and then one of the lovely Mudelves very kindly fixes my dodgy link. Note: For non-Mudcat links the whole web address is pasted into the "Link URL:" box. Well done, Guest, ottery for identifying the song. |

Subject: RE: Origins: Song sung in Hamish Macbeth TV Show From: GUEST,Snizort Date: 23 Aug 21 - 12:04 PM Thank you all for the replies and for helping me find this song. I very much appreciate it. I tried to use melody apps with it but had little luck, and had no chance of trying to google lyrics... But I'm quite glad to have found it here! It's wonderful to see all the information about it and the origins too in the mudcat link. I'm very grateful. Thank you again -S |
