The other day I sought the lyrics to the "The Death of Willie" but no luck. I've since discovered that a group called the the "Tennesee Hillbillies" sang it sometime around 1938-48 ( approx ). Does this get me any closer ?

How many songs are there with someone named Willie, who dies? Could you get them into one volume, and be able to lift it?

I might be getting the lyrics to The Death Of "my" Willie ( oh no !!! ) from another source. If so, I'll pass them on. And to Midchuck & InOBU on the problems caused by over-used names ( mine is a case in point )that's the reason why I christened my three Sons, Ryder, Cable & Slade.
