Subject: BS: Mural artworks make life happier - COVID From: Helen Date: 04 Sep 21 - 09:04 PM Hi all, I've read a few news articles about mural artworks and how they are helping the local communities to feel more positive about life during the pandemic. An artist with some brilliantly beautiful mural artworks here in Newcastle, NSW, Oz is Jordan Lucky The murals pictured in the first four images on that page are on the exterior walls of my regular supermarket/shopping centre. Jordan Lucky - another mural in my home area There is a regular Newcastle mural project which happens every couple of years so we have some brilliant murals around town, but seeing the brightly coloured parrot and the beautifully painted proteas at the shopping centre, as I drive into the carpark always lifts my spirits. I'm interested to see the images of mural artworks which make you smile, give your spirits a lift or just make you think. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mural artworks make life happier - COVID From: Helen Date: 09 Sep 21 - 05:07 AM Thanks Sandra for the information about the Martin Luther King mural in Sydney. He's one of my all-time heroes. I was really hoping that other people from various places would share mural artworks in their area, but it looks like I'm pretty much talking to myself. Oh well! |
Subject: RE: BS: Mural artworks make life happier - COVID From: Senoufou Date: 09 Sep 21 - 06:08 AM My (very) Norfolk neighbour-across-the-road calls them 'Muriels'! But like me, she thinks they're very uplifting and interesting. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mural artworks make life happier - COVID From: Helen Date: 09 Sep 21 - 06:40 AM A couple of decades or so ago I went on a bus trip around parts of the Australian outback. In Broken Hill (one of my favourite cities) there were a lot of murals. There was also a woman called Muriel on the trip, with a great sense of humour who had joked about people referring to them as "muriels", so whenever I spotted a mural I'd say, "look at the muriels, Muriel!". |
