Subject: RE: Michael Chapman has died From: GUEST,Clive Pownceby Date: 11 Sep 21 - 08:23 AM Last at Southport Bothy Club a few years back with Bridget St. John. A lovely man to deal with. When I surveyed the audience, which could've been larger at the start of the evening he said "I wouldn't worry mate, my lot don't show up til halfway through and they'll be half-p*ssed anyway!" He was right, a memorable night! Thanks Mike. |
Subject: RE: Michael Chapman has died From: punkfolkrocker Date: 11 Sep 21 - 09:06 AM When I was about 14 I took a chance on "Fully Qualified Survivor" LP in a record sale, I didn't have a clue who Michael Chapman was, but because I noticed Mick Ronson played on it... From then on I added Michael Chapman to my list of top influential guitar players.. It's still one of my favourite Albums... |

Subject: RE: Michael Chapman has died From: MoorleyMan Date: 11 Sep 21 - 10:45 AM Yeah, a real loss. A true FQS! A lovely guy, and one of the finest and most influential guitarists ever. And I was just thinkin' only yesterday, still making rain after all these years! Those first two LPs have been faves of mine for decades. Sympathies and condolences to Andru. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Michael Chapman - 2021 From: fat B****rd Date: 11 Sep 21 - 04:34 PM Saw him on a "Singer Songwriters" on telly recently. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed his work. Something that I shall remedy RIP Mr. Chapman |
Subject: RE: Obit: Michael Chapman - 2021 From: G-Force Date: 11 Sep 21 - 06:52 PM A real perfectionist. I saw him once, and if he ever played a slightly duff note, which wasn't often, he would wince visibly. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Michael Chapman (1941-2021) From: Waddon Pete Date: 12 Sep 21 - 07:32 AM A very talented guitar player. I was sorry to hear that he had died. I have added his name to the "In Memoriam" thread and send my condolences to all those who know and love him. He will live on in his albums and YouTube performances. RIP |

Subject: RE: Obit: Michael Chapman (1941-2021) From: GUEST,Some bloke Date: 13 Sep 21 - 11:12 AM Sad to hear this. I ran the sound desk for him a couple of years ago in Doncaster. By then, his hearing wasn't perfect and I reckon I put more volume on stage with the monitors than on the main PA... That said, his guitar playing was as ever inspirational and it was an honour to work with him. I've seen him a number of times over the years and whilst little of his music was memorable as tunes, his relentless playing, changing, playing again and never stopping got you in a zone, and unlike prog rock, did it with a solitary acoustic guitar. |
Subject: ADD Postcards of Scarborough:(Michael Chapman) From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Sep 21 - 05:45 PM POSTCARDS OF SCARBOROUGH (Michael Chapman) Two postcards of Scarborough just to keep in my mind To hide away up there and help me remind Myself of time past and time passing I went down to the harbor just to catch a bite to eat Boats along the quay and seagulls round my feet reminds me Of when we were here together And the food was so tasteless, the wine was so stale I looked in the mirror and my face was so pale So different from when we were here together And I took a walk up to Paradise just like we did before But it doesn't seem like Paradise to me anymore Not since we were there together And I sleep in the same room, the walls are so white But there's nothing to warm me in the cool of the night Not like when we were here together And the food was so tasteless, the wine was so stale I looked in the mirror and my face was so pale So different from when we were here together But I've got postcards of Scarborough just to keep in my mind To hide away up there and help me remind Myself of time past and time passing Myself of time past and time passing Time past and time passing Time passing Passing https://genius.com/Michael-chapman-postcards-of-scarborough-lyrics |
Subject: RE: Obit: Michael Chapman (1941-2021) From: GUEST,Jerry Date: 14 Sep 21 - 04:03 AM Sad news, but essential listening for anyone interested into guitar tunings other than the familiar open chord ones. And I gather he only played with thumb and one finger, though it sounded more like two or three fingers at times. |
