The Battle of Allatoona Pass was fought in Bartow County, Georgia during the American Civil War. "Hold the Fort!" was written as a hymn in 1870 by Philip Paul Bliss who was inspired by hearing about an incident in this battle. At the end of the nineteenth century it was re-written by the British Transport Workers as a union song.
