Subject: A.I. & Beethoven's unfinished 10th Symphony From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Oct 21 - 01:46 PM Team uses AI to complete Beethoven's unfinished masterpiece A group of musicians and scientists have used artificial intelligence to complete one of the great what-ifs in classical music: Ludwig van Beethoven's unfinished 10th symphony. A snippet: MARTIN: Next Saturday, more than two years after beginning this project, the team will finally release Beethoven's completed "10th Symphony" to the world. Ignore the gaff when the host called Beethoven a 17th century composer. They fixed it later in the story. |

Subject: RE: A.I & Beethoven's unfinished 10th Symphony From: Bill D Date: 03 Oct 21 - 06:58 PM ?? Fascinating... but I remember when Mudcat was a folk & blues refuge. "Music" is a pretty broad category, but in recent years it seems anything goes. Bill, the uncontrite Pedant..... except below the line. |
Subject: RE: A.I & Beethoven's unfinished 10th Symphony From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Oct 21 - 10:39 PM This is a fascinating process. And perhaps in the future AI will be used to deduce what the ancient melodies were with the Ur versions of traditional songs. :) |
Subject: RE: A.I & Beethoven's unfinished 10th Symphony From: Steve Shaw Date: 04 Oct 21 - 06:12 AM There wasn't much of it to hear, but the little snippets didn't sound much like my hero to me. One bit earlier in the clip sounded more like early Schubert. My mind is open until I can hear more. |
Subject: RE: A.I & Beethoven's unfinished 10th Symphony From: GUEST,PB Date: 04 Oct 21 - 11:23 AM In a short story by the Irish writer Eric Cross, the ghost of Beethoven attempts to convey the completion to a rural Irishman. Sadly the hoped- for medium knows nothing of classical music, and hears only incomprehensible sounds, and someone repeating the words "Bakeoven, Saint". Beethoven Zehnt for those of you without German. |
Subject: RE: A.I & Beethoven's unfinished 10th Symphony From: Donuel Date: 06 Oct 21 - 08:31 AM In Beethoven's flat there were music sketchs on the wall by his bed suggesting that he possibly dreamed in music or in reverie twillight sleep, themes would come to him and he hurridly would write them down before they faded. While idea fragments are fascinating there was no substitute for the concentration required to work out complexities as in a fugue form or reprising themes in different voices. Crucial to the project would be what was meant by Ludwig's thoughts regarding his "unifying 10th symphony". |
