Today I tried to search the lyrics for "harmonica", and the computer (at the King County WA public library system) gave me an error page saying that what I'd tried to do was not secure. It read

The information you’re about to submit is not secure
Because this form is being submitted using a connection that’s not secure, your information will be visible to others.

followed by two clickable buttons, "Send anyway" and "Go back". Clicking on "Send anyway" yielded no forward motion. Later in the day I tried the same thing on a computer at Staples. Same result. Everybody assures me I can just "click past it", but if "Send anyway" doesn't work, how am I supposed to do that?

That has to do with the library system's built in security protocols. The university library where I worked had a setup that wouldn't allow certain types of file-sharing sites be accessed and this kind of browser response would have probably gotten the same response - it wouldn't let you click.

Anyone on a personal computer is able to click through to the site; the security settings are low because of how it is set up - there are no uploads of files or photos to introduce malware. The Mudcat lyrics server just has text.

Like the now botched up blue clicky maker this is a not-thought-of concequence of moving the Mudcat page to the secure https web protocol.

The 'Lyrics & Knowledge Search' form is explicitely calling 'http://search.mudcat.org/@NewSSResults.cfm' and not 'https://search.mudcat.org/@NewSSResults.cfm', so the web browser is complaining about going back to an insecure protocol.

The 'DT Lyrics' form below that is calling the script '/title.cfm' which is a page on the same server and there is no access protocol specified, so the browser can use the same https protocol and you don't get the security warning.

It IS frustrating, but that's the reality e deal with. If you look in the FAQ/newcomer guide, you will see all sorts of search workarounds.
The grey search box isn't all that much of a SuperSearch, anyhow. We have many other tool that can give you a more refined search.

Or you could ask a moderator - we're all quite proud of our research skills, and we're actually quite nice. Stilly River Sage is a great cook who can do amazing things with eggplant and okra and other exotic things, and I make a pretty mean omelet. I can't vouch for Jeri's cooking, but she has a reputation for finding songs at legendary speed.

But whatever the case, we'll cook up and answer for you right quick. But I prefer Maggie's eggplant Parmesan.

I've had trouble with the blikifier recently - sometimes. I copied a URL & it excluded the end - 3 times for one post I was trying to make, so I just put the URL in the post. Next time it worked perfectly for a similarly long URL.

are the changes documented somewhere? Preferably not on facebook as I'm not a member.

We try to keep the Facebook traffic limited to announcements, especially those shared from music groups and venues and various Mudcat performers. The research needs to happen here - search may be a bit rocky at times, but the information sticks around.

Joe visited before the eggplant kicked in after a hot summer. In the fall they really look big and pretty!

I remember you bringing something from facebook to a thread so it wouldn't disappear.

Can you post a link to the blickifier changes?

thanks

sandra

For those times The Cat is down, I used to switch to Mudcat on Facebook and generally had no problem (like Sandra, I'm not a FBer).
But since I switched from Google to the double Duck (Duck Duck Go) as my main search engine, it's not finding it!!

What's the url for it??

Cheers, R-J
(now salivating at the thought of Stilly's Eggplant Parmesan!!)

For near a decade, Max used "Go Daddy".

The month of October, 2021, has been rampant with DNS errors... The attack has been open, and curious. Ping back and you may find more than " The Pope's" underwear.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle
