I posted the lyrics to Connemara Cradle Song to an earlier thread the same as radriano posted them here. They are credited to Delia Murphy in the songbook that I have.

Dear Jim:

Here are the lyrics I have to the Conemara Cradle Song:

CONNEMARA CRADLE SONG

On the wings of the wind o'er the dark rolling deep
Angels are coming to watch o'er thy sleep
Angels are coming to watch o'er thee
So list to the wind coming over the sea

Chorus:
Hear the wind blow, dear
Hear the wind blow
Lean you head over
And hear the wind blow

Oh, winds of the night may your fury be crossed
May no one that's dear to our island be lost
Blow the wind gently, calm be the foam
Shine the light brightly to guide them home

The currachs are sailing way out in the blue
Laden with herring of silvery hue
Silver the herring and silver the sea
And soon they'll be silver for baby and me

The currachs tomorrow will stand on the shore
And daddy goes sailing, a-sailing no more
The nets will be drying, the nets heaven blessed
And safe in my arms, dear, contented he'll rest

radriano

Dear alison,

Thanks so much for the words & tune to the Cradle Song. I would be interested in seeing any other versions of the song that you might have found.

Dear Jim,

Here is one version of the Connemara Cradle Song that I found:

THE CONNEMARA CRADLE SONG

On wings of the wind o'er the dark rolling deep
Angels are coming to watch o'er thy sleep
Angels are coming to watch over thee
So list to the wind coming over the sea

Curfá
Hear the wind blow love hear the wind blow
Lean your head over and hear the wind blow

The currachs are sailing way out on the blue
Chasing the herring of silvery hue
Silver the herring and silver the sea
Soon they'll be silver for my love and me.

Curfá

Dear Jim,

You can find the Padraig Pearse version of Óró 'Sé Do Bheatha 'Bhaile here and the Jacobite version here.

I'm trying to find the lyrics to "The Conomara Cradle Song" and "Oro se du Breatha Bhaille." Both songs have been performed by Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers. I'd also like to get a translation for the lyrics of "Oro." Many thanks. Jim Burk
