Subject: BS: Help wysiwyg Publish Her Booktr From: wysiwyg Date: 25 Nov 21 - 07:21 PM I'm just finishing copy-editing a book I wrote on my cellphone-- "How to Thrive in a Nursing Home." (It *can* actually be done!) I could use some help raising funds for self-publishing. Thing is, I can't be the payee-- on Medicaid. I don't suppose a team could form here? |
Subject: RE: BS: Help wysiwyg Publish Her Book From: Mr Red Date: 26 Nov 21 - 03:29 AM Self publishing on Amazon is an option. You have to provide a file, I'm guessing PDF and probably Word .doc will do it. My brother-in-law did this for a life story of my sister as an archive for the kiddos and grand kiddikins. AFAIK it goes on their listings, and they make the books on a demand basis (say $5-10 ish depending on how many you buy in one go), and it can be available as a Kindle book. When I looked at it, minimum purchase was 1 book. Anyone done this? Publicity is the problemo. But any publishing house have to weigh-up that burden too. Maybe there are Mudkittens who can format the text in book form - any takers? |
Subject: RE: BS: Help wysiwyg Publish Her Book From: Stilly River Sage Date: 26 Nov 21 - 01:03 PM Formatting into a PDF e-book is the easy part. I think figuring a way to publish for $$$ without creating something the federal Medicaid program is going to penalize her for is the biggest issue. "Under the table" or "Off the books." I'm sure there are other terms for this operation. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help wysiwyg Publish Her Book From: Ebbie Date: 27 Nov 21 - 07:02 AM Susan, I admire your capacity to write a book on a cellphone! Brett Burnham, formerly known as Naemanson, put several of his stories on Kindle. I don't know how much it cost nor the procedure but perhaps you might want to shoot him a message? |
Subject: RE: BS: Help wysiwyg Publish Her Book From: Mr Red Date: 27 Nov 21 - 08:56 AM I am not sure of all the ramifications, but Bro-in-Law suggested he only had to buy a book, maybe several. And I was sure it got onto Kindle for nothing. When I looked at the Amazon methods, there were several options & the Kindle one was optional. It may have changed, but there was revenue from both, though without publicity it may be small both as a percentage & as a total.. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help wysiwyg Publish Her Book From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 27 Nov 21 - 12:13 PM I published my "Another Approach to the Anglo Concertina" as an ebook using Amazon and it was easy and I don't think I had to pay anything. I just got it into a Microsoft Publisher file (which gives scope for illustrations and photos) and sent it across. It is set up to pay royalties into a bank account, now what bank account you choose could solve any problems with whether this affects anything potential finacial reward problems! Robin |

Subject: RE: BS: Help wysiwyg Publish Her Book From: Mr Red Date: 28 Nov 21 - 11:12 AM what format will the file be on your phone? is it Word .doc? .docx? google docs? Text ie .txt? RFT? I would bet Amazon have most of them covered. It is just that Word etc level you get to choose the font, & pictures etc. I would bet there are skilled cartoonists of this parish that could illustrate some of the irony you want to portray. I have one Mudkitten in mind............ |

Subject: RE: BS: Help wysiwyg Publish Her Book From: Donuel Date: 28 Nov 21 - 03:54 PM I learned the many unwritten rules of living in assisted living from my mother in law. For people to learn the rules, now written, of living in a nursing home sounds invaluable and is needed for many. Susan you are a mensch. |
