Subject: It was rusted, it was busted, From: jon@it.nospam.postoffice.co.uk Date: 14 Jan 00 - 10:20 AM I'm trying to remember the lyrics to a song that I think was by Hamish Imlach. All I can remember is: "It was rusted, it was busted, that old car wouldn't travel far, but......" The car was used for courting, and the springs stood up to a considerable amount of hammer. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: It was rusted, it was busted, From: Susanne (skw) Date: 14 Jan 00 - 08:54 PM It must be 'The Clapped-Out Motor Car'. I'm sorry I haven't got the lyrics, and I haven't looked if they're in the DT, but I'll ask around. I can't even remember which album it's on, but this page Click here might help you to find out (if it works!). It's nowhere near finished, though, and I know Nigel is very busy at the moment, so give him a while. - Susanne |

Subject: Lyr Add: CLAPPED OUT MOTORCAR (from Hamish Imlach) From: BEDLAM Date: 17 Jan 00 - 05:46 PM Hi Jon, I learned this from Hamish many years ago when we were playing at a Gig in Denny in Stirlingshire. CLAPPED OUT MOTORCAR O' the coopers oot o' Forfar, aul Shuggie farms the land Rustic farmer is no charmer, tho' he's aften tried his hand He's made passes at the lassies, never quite came up tae par Till he sold that ring o' gold and bought a clapped oot motor car Chorus It was rusted it was busted This old car wouldn't travel far But it's true that Farmer Hugh Had many a ride in that old car He didn't tax it or insure it, in the normal way o' things Only ensured that the doors were locked and nightly taxed the springs It wasn't cruel on oil or fuel, sevice charges were quite thin Each day a box of chocolates sat, underneath a bottle o' gin Chorus Though the motor had nae rotor and the engine never went One night standing in the back seat, Shuggie had an accident Moving up from first to second, wi a mighty burst o' speed Realised his brakes had failed him and his big end hadnae seized Chorus Though he'd rode wi' precautions, safety belt an a' the lot Orange juice, rice an' confetti soon were poor aul Shuggie's lot On the day of matrimony, his co-driver by his side Sentimental and nostalgic back tae the car for one last ride Chorus Enjoy ! BEDLAM Line Breaks <br> added. I have a CD that identifies the songwriters as Lauder/Nicoll/Imlach - Logo songs, Ltd.

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Clapped-Out Motorcar (from Hamish Imlach) From: GUEST Date: 10 Oct 17 - 04:35 AM I know this thread is absolutely ancient, but I happened across it and can make a few corrections. CLAPPED OUT MOTORCAR North o' Cupar, south o' Forfar, aul Shuggie farms the land. Rustic farmer is no charmer, tho' he's aften tried his hand. He's made passes at the lassies, never quite came up tae par, Till he sold that ring o' gold and bought a clapped oot motor car. Chorus It was rusted, it was busted, This old car wouldn't travel far. Still it's true that Farmer Hugh Had many a ride in that old car. He didn't tax it or insure it, in the normal way o' things; Only ensured that the doors were locked as he nightly taxed the springs. It wasn't cruel on oil or fuel, sevice charges were quite slim - Each day a box of chocolates, Saturday a bottle o' gin Chorus Though the motor had nae rotor and the engine never went One night, standing in the back seat, Shuggie had an accident Moving up from first to second, wi a mighty burst o' speed, Realised his brakes had failed him and his big end had been seized. Chorus Though he'd rode wi' precautions, safety belt an a' that rot, Orange juice, rice an' confetti soon were poor aul Shuggie's lot. On the day of matrimony, his co-driver by his side Sentimental and nostalgic - back tae the car for one last ride. Chorus |
