Subject: Lyr Add: Mexico Lindo y Querido From: Joe Offer Date: 29 Nov 21 - 03:53 PM Patty Clink sang this one at the singaround. I think it's worth exploring.
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Mexico Lindo y Querido From: Monique Date: 29 Nov 21 - 05:19 PM Wiki English says... SNIP "México lindo y querido" is a traditional mariachi and ranchera Mexican song written by Chucho Monge and made famous by singer Jorge Negrete ("the singing charro"). It is widely known throughout the Spanish-speaking world for its characterization of patriotism and loyalty for the land of Mexico. It has been covered by many well-known artists, including Bertín Osborne, Ana Gabriel and Vicente Fernández and Pedro Fernández. SNIP Wiki Spanish adds (Translated by Google, I'm too sleepy to do it)... SNIP ... although the first who recorded it were the Tariacuri trio in 1945, it is widely known among the world. Spanish-speaking as a representative song of Mexico and, in that country, as a song of patriotic pride and nostalgia for the native land. When Jorge Negrete passed away on December 5, 1953, in Los Angeles, California, United States, his body was brought to Mexico and this song was played and sung at his funeral. For some reason the first 40 seconds are a lead-in featuring that ay-ay-ay song Cielito Lindo, but be patient. Mexico Lindo y Querido |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Mexico Lindo y Querido From: Monique Date: 30 Nov 21 - 01:23 PM In case the LyricsTranslate page would disappear, here's what the lyrics mean (widely borrowed from the LT translation): The voice of my guitar Wants to sing its joy To my Mexican homeland When the morning wakes up I sing to its volcanoes, Its meadows and its flowers Which are like talismans Of the love amongst my loves Beautiful and beloved Mexico Should I die far from you Let them say I'm asleep And let them bring me back to you Let them say I'm asleep And let them bring me back to you Beautiful and beloved Mexico Should I die far from you Let them bury me in the mountains At the foot of the maguey/agave groves And let this soil cover me, This soil which is a cradle for upright men |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Mexico Lindo y Querido From: GUEST,pattyClink Date: 01 Dec 21 - 11:26 AM Thank you Monigue. No habla espanol, but this seems much clearer and better than the subtitles on the video (we know Lindo means beautiful, they used 'sweet', etc.) Have pasted this into my songbook for reference. P.S. anybody who learns to sing this song: if you are a fellow then you use 'dormido' when it comes to the part about "say I'm asleep", but if you are of the female persuasion then you are 'dormida'. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Mexico Lindo y Querido From: Monique Date: 01 Dec 21 - 01:03 PM Lindo can be translated as beautiful, nice, cute, sweet, fine... depending on the context and the feelings of whoever speaks. |
