John passed away on 5th January 2022.
I ran a folk club with John in 1971 1972 at The Royal Oak Havering Atte Bower, he was also involved with Upminster Folk Club, and later Romford Folk Club.
He will be missed

I was sorry to read this post. He was a good organizer and the Royal Oak was always a good place to be. My condolences to his friends and family and all those who know and miss him.

Very sad to hear this news. I knew John from my earliest visits to Romford Folk Club.

John sat quietly on the door of several folk clubs in the Essex area, Organising clubs giving perfomers a chance to do gigs including at least one other menber of this forum.
A pleasant man who got things done and loved folk music, he moved to the west country and turned up at events in Cornwall, a decent kind man

Hello Sandman.Pete Waddon and severed head
I would like to say thank you for all your kind words concerning my uncle John. He was heavily involved in folk musicboth in Essex and in Cornwall . He had many friends and he loved Cornwall and its traditions. He never actually moved to Cornwall but spent alot of time there.

He and I went back a long time, 1970,I helped him organise a folk club at the Royal Oak at Havering atte Bower, in 1971, We booked people such as Dolores Keane, Nic Jones etc, A gentleman and good bloke
