Subject: Tab needed: Danny Boy, Wild Mtn Thyme From: Walter Date: 15 Jan 00 - 06:47 PM I would like to find guitar tab for Danny Boy and Wild Mountain Thyme - lyrical fingerstyle arrangements, preferably in an alternative tuning. I have a wonderful vocalist who will sing the tunes as I accompany on 12-string. We have a great deal of fun and would like to expand our repertoire with songs she enjoys singing. |
Subject: RE: Tab needed: Danny Boy, Wild Mtn Thyme From: Sparrow Date: 27 Jan 03 - 07:05 PM Dear Walter, I've worked out most of the chords and runs of "Danny Boy' as performed by Eva Cassidy -- but I still have some gaps. I'll be happy to share them once I get it together -- if i can. By the way -- many "folkies" are very snobbish about this tune, mocking it, and such, and I can understand that if they're asked to play it over and over it could get to them. I've never played it before, but we've been asked to perform it at a funeral and it seems a wee bit tight to say "Nah, it's overdone!" Besides, if one ignores the fact that it's really popular, it's very sentimental and pretty. Good luck, Sparrow |

Subject: RE: Tab needed: Danny Boy, Wild Mtn Thyme From: pavane Date: 28 Jan 03 - 01:35 PM Perhaps if we tell them that it's English not Irish (The words, that is)... My wife has sung it at a variety of venues, (nursing homes, pubs, clubs, but not yet a funeral) and it ALWAYS goes well, so I don't think it can be overdone. |

Subject: RE: Tab needed: Danny Boy, Wild Mtn Thyme From: Uncle Jaque Date: 15 Jul 03 - 09:37 AM I usually do "DB" on a low-G black walnut open-holed flute; I suppose I ought to learn it on guitar some day. It is a big hit with the Elder crowd, and was one of my Dad's favorites. "WMT" is about the easiest Folktune I know; I only use 2 chords for it - D and G. All you have to do is remember where to throw them in. If you want to get fancy, you can pop in a D7 here and there. Of course I expect that some of the Virtuosoes in here take it a bit beyond that... UJ, Maine Porch-Picker |
Subject: RE: Tab needed: Danny Boy, Wild Mtn Thyme From: JohnInKansas Date: 15 Jul 03 - 09:50 AM Thread started 15 Jan 00 - 06:47 PM Walter's last post on mudcat (under that name, at least) was 17-Jan-00 - 12:54 PM. The answer (second post) on 27 Jan 03, 3 years later, probably wasn't received by him? No harm in continuing the thread - if there's an interest in the songs, but I doubt if Walter is going to get the message. John |
