A chance encounter with Ed that happened to you many years later must have been an unforgettable moment. Unknowingly playing such an important role in your life and suddenly appearing in front of you must have been surreal. It's wonderful that your connection with Ed transcended his music and led to an unforgettable weekend spent with him, Dina, Nicki, Alex and your daughter. You can read https://casinosanalyzer.ca/online-casinos/new-casinos reviews of new games for a change and have a great time) Your words really highlight Ed's extraordinary qualities as a musician and as a person. He obviously had a kindness and warmth that touched the lives of all who knew him. You consider yourself fortunate to have had the opportunity to know Ed, and obviously he left an indelible mark on your life.

I was So Lucky to see Ed in concert, both as part of the world's best trio, and also performing solo. The last was at a house concert and I was able to have a one-on-one conversation with him which was one of the high points of my life. One can just tell from the music he performed that he was such a beautiful person - the kind we need more of in this world.

Sorry to hear of Ed's passing.I Didn't know him all that well, but saw him perform solo and in a couple of groups many times. I booked him as part of Bok, Muir and Trickett once or twice. Loved his versions of songs by Bogle, Utah Phillips, and Bob Coltman on Folk Legacy Records.

Though I never told Ed after we met in the 90s, his music saved me after a dear friend died from cancer in 1979. I had to take my masters exam days after I learned that my closest friend on the east coast had died over the summer while I was gone. I listened to Ed, day after day trying to find the strength to go on. His voice and humanity gave me that.

Then 15 years later a man appeared at my office door and said "I'm Ed Trickett. Can we talk about the research your Branch funds?" I sat there, speechless, with my mouth hanging open. Finally I said, "I know."

Ed, Dina, Nicky, and Alex and my daughter and I spent so many weekends together after that. These were among the most fabulous days of my life.

Ed was an amazing musician. But far more than that, Ed was one of the kindest, most amazing humans - ever. Anyone who knew Ed was so lucky.

And the folk music society of ny also known as the ny pinewoods folk music club. I am shocked and saddened to learn the bad news. I want to convey my condolences and express my heartfelt sympathy to his wife Dina birman, ex-wife penny, daughters Jennifer, Katlin and his son's plus other members of his family, etc. Sheila ewall

I first met Ed at The San Francisco Folk Music Club in 1968. The club, was home to many fine singers: Kenny Hall, Larry Hanks, Ed, Faith Petric, and many others. Alan Oakes was there with his recording machine. Being a “Square”’ I turned up wearing a suit, but it didn’t matter, everyone was great and very friendly. Ed invited me to his house in Menlo Park, for a singing gathering, it was a wonderful evening. The last get together in that house was the evening of the first moon landing. Ed and Penny were moving to the east coast, and while they packed, the rest of us watched Neil Armstrong step on to the moon. Later, Ed introduced me to The Foxhollow, and The Indian Neck Folk festivals. Both have been important in my life.
He encouraged so many, always looking for the positive. I can’t recall him ever being critical of other singers, and his recordings, solo, and with Gordon and Ann are glittering gems that we will treasure forever.
I last saw Ed in March of this year at his home in Miami. Dina made delicious afternoon tea, Russian style. Ed and Dina had just come back from England where they had been for a wedding of a son. I was so happy to hear that they enjoyed England. Ed was beloved, for his singing and for his friendship and encouragement to so many. Farewell Ed.

I'm sorry I never knew Ed as an adult, though I continued to be a fan of his music. I was among his counselors at summer camp Cibola in New Mexico, a creation of Sandy and Eleanor Orr in the 1950s As a dancer, what I noticed most about Ed as a young teen was his movement. Whether swinging a baseball bat, running or walking, he was incredibly fluid and graceful, as much as any trained dancer.

I didn’t know him personally - hung back in awe at a couple of Getaways- his interpretations of the music, and his wondrous perception with regard to who he collaborated with were, indeed, awesome.

He was Lao, for a time, editor of the American Journal of Community Psychology . I didn’t know that. Wonderful integration of the at least two interests in which he excelled.

As many of you have already posted, Ed was a singer and musician who helped us all to get through the hard times and celebrate the good. His day job led him to find hidden depths in the songs he chose and this makes his legacy a wonderful resource. I never knew Ed personally but was wryly amused when someone mispronounced my surname as 'Trickett'. I know him through his music with Gordon and Ann and as a solo performer. My condolences to his family and friends and all those who know and love him. Pete.

My Condolences to Dina, Jennifer, Katlin, and his sons.
Ed was a special friend from our youth forward. We first met in the summer of 1956 at camp Cibola located in the San Cristobal Valley,NM.Ed was a kind and supportive person, enormously talented in numerous ways as a psychologist and folk singer. He was also a gifted athlete who played and starred in Football, Base ball and basketball at the ST. Albans school in Washington DC. He took the football team to and undefeated season as quarterback beating cross town rival Landon in the final game of the season. Ed also sang in the National Cathedral Choir and received awards as a dancer from Arthur Murray Studios. Ed was particularly modest despite all has notable accomplishments. Most importantly, Ed generosity of spirit and kind nature was so evident in our numerous times together over the years. He was a close friend who I will surely miss but leaves many wonderful memories. Joe Ferber

“All you ever gave us was your best…People like you helped people like me go on!”
Ed’s music has gotten me through some hard times. And it literally freed a political prisoner in Peru when he gave a benefit concert for Amnesty International in Columbia, Maryland, decades ago. May all the good he did live on and be returned to him a hundredfold.

Very sad to hear this. Listening to Ed's albums used to calm me down whenever I was feeling anxious or stressed. His singing was like Mississippi Hurt's in that respect. Helped get me through some testing times.

Ed was such a versatile singer/player with so many interests -- and always so encouraging and kind in his comments to others, it was like a signature of his presence in a music circle. This is so hard to process, Joe, we were all singing together on Zoom just a few days ago. Just makes me want to tell every one of you how wonderful you are! A well-lived life, and a much-missed man. Hearts out to Dina and the rest of Ed's family and all his many friends.

Ed's music has been a real source of pleasure in my life for decades. Some of the songs he recorded are among my all-time favorites. I hope his spirit is repaid handsomely for the joy and comfort he gave so freely while he was among us.

In the 1970's I helped book a few performers at a coffee house near my home. Ed (and Gordon Bok) was by far the easiest and most companionable performer of many. He was my introduction to Hammered Dulcimer and the songs of Bruce Phillips. I am sorry to see him step away.

Such a loss to the community! From his solo recordings to his masterful offerings with Gordon Bok & Ann Muir, Ed has enriched my life for many years! What a blessing that we, at least, have his recordings! Rest in peace--a life well-lived!

Ed was the first of the short list of musicians from whom I learned the most (including my choice of guitar...). One of the only good things about the last couple of years was getting to see him regularly at online sings.

Many condolences to Dina and his kids...I will miss him enormously, like so many others.

Amba Lee and I are stunned to learn of the sudden passing of Ed Trickett. In Ed we have lost a dear friend we have known and loved for over half a century—the kindest, most considerate person, the most simpatico of all fellow musicians, whose every visit, every song, every conversation was a deep and lasting pleasure.

It seems impossible that he will never again walk in at our door with guitar, hammer dulcimer, and the particular joy and good fellowship that was uniquely his.

Our fondest love and deepest condolences to Dina and the children,

Bob and Amba

On Wednesday, May 11, 2022, Ed Trickett's wife Dina Birman posted this message on Facebook:
    Dear friends,
This is Dina posting. We are heartbroken that Ed passed away last night quite suddenly. I am grateful that all his 4 children were able to get there in time to say goodbye. He was the love of my life, for more than half of which, almost 33 years, I was married to him. We will have a memorial service later in the summer.

What I'll remember most about Ed, is what a kind person he was. He attended the Getaway with us a number of times, and he was a friend to everyone. One afternoon at Camp Ramblewood, just after Kendall Morse had started to recover from the loss of his voice, I found Kendall sitting out on the porch with Ed Trickett, playing guitar and swapping songs. Kendall was in heaven. I hadn't seen him look so happy for a long time. I think that afternoon session was an early step toward recovery for Kendall. It's the kind of thing Ed would do.

May he rest in peace.

-Joe-
