As requested I am forwarding the following information, sad news and Pete will greatly missed. PJS

Please pass on this sad news to anyone else you think may need to know:-

Dear Friends
it is with great regret that I have to inform you the Pete Elliott our friend and mentor has lost his battle with 'The Big C' as he called it.
He died this morning Friday the 13th January at 7pm.

His fight has been a long and a very brave one loosing one lung, then fighting even more chemotherapy when the cancer came back at the end of the year.

Pete will be missed by many, a wondrous eloquent wit, an amazing stalwart of the Folk Scene and as one of The Elliotts of Birtley what Traditional Folk Music is all about.

For those of you who will be able to make it Pat has asked me to let you know that the funeral will be

12.00pm on Tuesday 25th January at:-
Sunderland Crematorium,
Newcastle Road,
Grindon,
Sunderland

and 1.00pm at the Buff's Club in Birtley.

If you would like to drop a note to Pat their snail mail address is
8, Alwin
Rickelton Village
Washington
Tyne and Wear
NE38 9EL
Tel. 0191 4175266

We had the great pleasure of a visit from Pat and Pete last May, here in Nenagh Ireland. They were absolutely marvellous and we have great memories of our return visit to Birtley in October last.

The Birtley Folk Club has been run by the Elliotts for 38 consecutive years. Pete told me that, even when he had the lung removed, he missed only two nights at the club.

Pete and Pat, and the Birtley Folk Club were the inspiration for our Circle.

We will not be able to travel to the funeral, nor can we attend the celebration of his life thereafter, but we are with you all in spirit. We will sing a couple of Elliott songs on January 25th to mark the occasion.

George Henderson, Michael Scanlan, Tom Joe Spillane.
