Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: GUEST Date: 29 Jun 06 - 02:46 AM I suspect Puzzled may have meant 'Trad' which has a different and more specific meaning than 'Folk' these days. All the acts are of course 'Folk,' because that word has become generic and akin to the word 'Art.' For a work to be 'Art' all that is required is for the creator to define it so. Likewise 'Folk.' But not 'Trad.' |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: GUEST Date: 29 Jun 06 - 02:37 AM What is folk music, puzzled? It's what you define it as. To many others this is the perfect folk festival. |

Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: panurus biarmicus Date: 28 Jun 06 - 03:17 PM hiya all - not been over to the fest for years but plan to get over fon sat or a gander - understand that you have the fairfield funky folk dancing this year - they are a bunch of youths with learning disabilities set up by Carol from Slubing Billy's be good if you could give them a cheer f you are in town when they are dancing. Pity the trip to Heck' is off - never danced there or even had a pint but it was the town that "invented" christmas lights and would benifit from a visit from traditional performers as it is on a bit of a slide culturally methinks ! hope is goes well PS if any of you cleck folk fest ctee peope are reading my day job is dealing with funding with kirklees and i can confirm the grant from the area committee was agreed - just need to get paperwork sorted tommorow but you got the brass ! Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: squeezeboxhp Date: 27 Jun 06 - 05:40 PM beware if you are in a dance team; the organizisation will send you to Heckmondwike on a saturday afternoon to watch the tumbleweed blow down the market place and leave you there for an hour until another team of unfortunate dancers arrive to take your place. it happened to us you could be next!it could be worse Cleckhechmondsedge is the correct title of the triangle where if the world had piles this would be the epicentre. |

Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Eric the Viking Date: 18 Jan 00 - 04:10 PM Hey Micca, Dave Ellis, a big bloke with a couple of kids? I don't know him personally, except by sight, but I know quite a few Marsdeners. Some are even human and have left the swamp for city life and civilization! And Liz, who lived behind the house that became Auntie's shop when they filmed there? By the way, my Mrs and small(at the time) daughter were in one episode of L o S W! And I used to get caught in the traffic while they filmed outside our 'ouse! Cleckheaton is much better. Patrish, when are you going over to the jug? I am getting better from the flu. Cheers. Eric |

Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Micca Date: 18 Jan 00 - 07:51 AM Eric, if you know Marsden, do you know Natandriel, the Slawit Giant? or Dave Ellis? My So lived in Marsden and Slawit ( spelled Slaithwaite) for several years and swears Clecheaton exists and is a real place but I am not so sure,I think its like Brigadoon, materialises once a year for the Festival and you have to believe in it to see it!!! Mind you I have had lunch in Sid's Cafe in Holmfirth.!!! |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Patrish(inactive) Date: 18 Jan 00 - 04:07 AM I've been to Cleckheaton Festival a few times, I think I even danced there once. Some friends of mine - Alan, Ann, Hazel and Theresa known as "Firm Friends" are performing there. I know I am biased but they are well worth seeing if you like harmonies. I look forward to seeing any mudcatters there -I'll be the one wearing the T-shirt Patrish |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: roopoo Date: 18 Jan 00 - 02:07 AM But Dorritt, Withernsea is important because there is evidence that there were Plough Stot dancers there: see "The Forgotten Morris" by Paul Davenport, published by the South Riding Folk Network. You can buy it in the Music Room at Cleckheaton! mouldy |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: roopoo Date: 18 Jan 00 - 02:04 AM Hey, Liz, I started school in Dorset, in Blandford Forum: only lived there a year, tho'. Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Little Dorritt Date: 17 Jan 00 - 07:47 PM mouldy, indeed there are several East Yorkshire vilages which are being eaten away by coastal erosion -easington for example . Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Skipjack Date: 17 Jan 00 - 06:21 AM Wither(e)nsea did exist, been there, but if it has been eaten by the North Sea, it would probably go unreported. Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Liz the Squeak Date: 17 Jan 00 - 06:01 AM I know it exists, I've seen Ron Kavanagh in their town hall. And it keeps popping up on odd episodes of 'Last of the Summer Wine', which is filmed in that area... Some people still believe the world is flat, that the sun goes around us, and that 'Tie a yellow ribbon' was a really great song..... some people really need to get out more! LTS |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: roopoo Date: 17 Jan 00 - 02:11 AM Of course, I think I have heard it referred to as part of the CleckHuddersFax Triangle... Anyway, if Cleckheaton doesn't exist, it must be a phantom shop called "The Music Room" that I was in just before Christmas! Little Dorritt, didn't there used to be several villages out your way that do no longer exist, due to coastal erosion? Or am I thinking more of the Suffolk coast? mouldy |
