Arthur, that apparent Lord of Hellfire, turns 80 tomorrow (June 24th)!!!

His legacy to music and folk culture is far deeper than one would at first expect, esp. if "Fire!" is your only experience of him (and that 60s hit is still regularly heard across the airwaves today).

A tiny taster of his Showman cum Travelling Player cum Celtic Bard personas can be glimpsed here :

but then be sure to watch the fascinating 3-part interview with Iain McNay (from both Cherry Red TV and Conscious TV, on YT in 2017 :

Pt 1    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXoGi86wfOE

Pt 2    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pkEfZjoIDU (Part 2 of 3)

Pt 3    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuTFxHw77OA

I for one, was very impressed by his breadth and depth of experience and knowledge and successful collaborations with numerous other writers, artists and musicians!!!

Oh, and Many Happy Returns of the Day, Arthur!!!

Cheers!

And when he was 69 years young :

Here from Belgian TV in 1968, he has some interesting interview observations :

"Long Live King Arthur" indeed!!!

"The Unknown" - take from the album "Zim Zam Zim" released 28th July 2014 :

Arthur Brown, a proverbial Wonder of Nature, indeed!!

Cheers, R-J

He was born in Whitby too. Wonder if he goes to the folk festival? :-)

Saw him at the London Marquee a few times in late 60s.

The side-long title track of his album Chisholm In My Bosom is one of the greatest things ever.

His latest album "Long Long Road" (released on his 80th birthday just gone!) is on Spotify, and I rather like it, esp the title track .....

".... the further we come, the further we go ...."
