I've watched (some of) the funeral and then moved on to watching what I think was Gwilym's last talk for the Traditional Song Forum (starting about the 30 minute mark).

Grovelling apologies. It was live. It may be a while before it is uploaded.

He spent almost a year in the Wash. D.C. area, collecting and performing.
He sang in my rec room. and did a house concert at a local home.

We never met (ocean in the way), but we were online colleagues briefly.

His enthusiasm was infectious, and he may have been one of the last collectors to gather from genuinely traditional singers little influenced by recordings.

I am very sad to hear this. Condolences.

This came as a shock to many of us. Gwilym did a lot of valuable work (see above) and was a very nice chap too.

In another thread, Tim Radford said:
In addition, we have now lost - Gwilym Davies from Gloucestershire. Gwilym was a Morris Dancer, Musician and Singer and Song Collector and leading light on the Glos Trad - http://glostrad.com/ website (Do take a look...)
Despite his name - Gwilym was born in Hampshire (my own home country) and he started collecting songs and tunes there before moving to Gloucestershire.

Sad News – Passing of Gwilym Davies
Message from his daughter, Mary-Ann Johnson:

“Last Sunday evening, my dad Gwilym Davies passed away, after a few months in hospital fighting a series of infections, complicated by being a transplant recipient. The kidney transplant he had a few years ago meant he could continue to live life to the full, both musically and having fun with his family and friends, and we are very grateful for the extra years it allowed us to spend with him.
The funeral will be at St. Peter's Church, Winchcombe, on 7th July at 2pm. We are also hoping to stream it on the St. Peter's YouTube channel, particularly for his many overseas friends. No black clothes, please, and family flowers only - charitable donations in his memory would be appreciated for two causes close to his heart: GlosTrad (http://glostrad.com ), the website he worked to set up to make Gloucestershire folk traditions available to all, and Kidney Research UK (https://www.kidneyresearchuk.org/ ). Donations can be sent to Alexander Burn funeral directors (https://www.alexanderburn.com/contact.html )”
