Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Gwilym Davies (Tradsinger) From: Lighter Date: 28 Jun 22 - 07:49 AM We never met (ocean in the way), but we were online colleagues briefly. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he may have been one of the last collectors to gather from genuinely traditional singers little influenced by recordings. I am very sad to hear this. Condolences. |
Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Gwilym Davies (Tradsinger) From: Brian Peters Date: 27 Jun 22 - 05:14 PM This came as a shock to many of us. Gwilym did a lot of valuable work (see above) and was a very nice chap too. |

Subject: Obit: Gwilym Davies (Tradsinger) From: Mr Red Date: 27 Jun 22 - 03:28 AM Folk singer, folksong collector in Gloucestershire, melodeon player. And all round good guy. Tradsinger of this parish. From Glosfolk by e-mail - glosfolk.org.uk Sad News – Passing of Gwilym Davies Message from his daughter, Mary-Ann Johnson: “Last Sunday evening, my dad Gwilym Davies passed away, after a few months in hospital fighting a series of infections, complicated by being a transplant recipient. The kidney transplant he had a few years ago meant he could continue to live life to the full, both musically and having fun with his family and friends, and we are very grateful for the extra years it allowed us to spend with him. The funeral will be at St. Peter's Church, Winchcombe, on 7th July at 2pm. We are also hoping to stream it on the St. Peter's YouTube channel, particularly for his many overseas friends. No black clothes, please, and family flowers only - charitable donations in his memory would be appreciated for two causes close to his heart: GlosTrad (http://glostrad.com ), the website he worked to set up to make Gloucestershire folk traditions available to all, and Kidney Research UK (https://www.kidneyresearchuk.org/ ). Donations can be sent to Alexander Burn funeral directors (https://www.alexanderburn.com/contact.html )” |
