The women have a gone long way towards changing the world. Great that England won it, of course, but the whole tournament has been amazing. Kudos!

And that goal dinked over the German goalie by Ella Toone was world class! Nearly as classy as the post-match Chloe Kelly interview!

I've been avoiding (yet often failing, I admit) calling them "girls" or "ladies." I'm a long-time aficionado of the beautiful game as played by men, and I've been reflecting on the fact that I never refer to the players as "boys" or "gentlemen."   At one point this evening I said to Mrs Steve that if one of our yellow-carded players got a second yellow, we'd be down to ten men. Grr.

I'm getting there...

How about "lassies" :-) ? I tend to use "lads" and "lassies" myself*, on the grounds that that's more age-neutral, but that may be a holdover (hangover?) from having been brugged up in Salford.

* Usually not for the same people.

Well, Filk (I'm not typing that full thing of yours every time!), I'm a Radcliffe lad and me mam was born and bred in Salford. Lads and lasses sounds fine to me. I'm not that bothered, except that "ladies" definitely sounds wrong somehow. By the way, "lassies" always looks to me like "more than one dog called Lassie." Dunno about that though.

I must say that I'm not exactly fond of "Lionesses" either. I was kind of hoping that we were moving away from things such as waitresses, comediennes, authoresses and actresses. Oh well. We have a very friendly lady postman. These things take time...

it was a Womans match, just call it as it is.. the women played well, if you want to use footballers bad grammar how about using text type

"Batsman" is, to me, inoffensive in itself, but "batswoman" sounds awkwardly close to "Batwoman," so unlike the Daily Mail, which considers it to be woke, I'm fine with "batter." Unfortunately, you can be a batter in cricket, you can batter your cod fillet and you can batter the door down (or batter your adversary...). I'm not sure what we can do about the fielding position "third man," however...

Now how are we going to get round "Women's Super League" vs Premier League," I ask myself...

My sister was at the final and she said that the atmosphere was great. The tournament was a great success. Credit should be given to all the organisers, helpers and the fans for making such a great job of it.

The aim now is to build on that success. That means putting the money and the hard work in at grass roots level. Let us hope that they are able to do that. A good start would be stopping schools from selling off playing fields.
