Subject: BS: Black Fives From: Bonzo3legs Date: 06 Aug 22 - 01:23 PM The London Midland and Scottish Railway Stanier Class 5 4-6-0, commonly known as the Black Five, is a class of 4-6-0 steam locomotives. It was introduced by William Stanier and built between 1934 and 1951, of which 842 were built. 18 have been preserved, of which 5 are still operational and mainline certified. However, I am yet to see one in recent years. |

We were hauled by a preserved Jubilee but on the return to Preston another excursion hauled by a Black 5 pulled in on the other side of the platform. There was much photography of the two locos sitting side by side in the slowly swirling mist of late evening, augmented by escaping steam. Robin |
