Some really sad news - Ivy Poole who ran the Swindon Folk Singers with her late husband Ted Poole for over 60 years sadly passed away yesterday morning. A warm hearted singer and organiser.

Many of you will have known them. Both she and Ted were members of the Swindon branch of the Communist Party and were well respected within the party, the town and beyond for their unswerving beliefs, commitment and loyalty to the cause as well as their kindness, compassion and respect for ordinary working people.

They were both fine singers not just of traditional folk songs but jazz, music hall and the popular songs of their youth. Their interpretation of “The Sheik of Araby” was as surprising as it was entertaining!

Ivy was a gem and always a delight to know. We counted her and Ted as our very best friends & had many a wonderful time in their company.
   No compromises politically and they made the Swindon Folksingers club a home for the best of the music for almost 60 years.
   RIP old friends

RIP, Ivy and the late Ted - thank you for many years of community music-making. Two Llantrisant Folk Club members used to drive many miles to Swndon regularly; I'll pass the sad news to them.

Very sad - We always met Ted and Ivy at Bampton and for many years shared accommodation with them at The Devonshire Inn, Sticklepath, for the Dartmoor Festival - both were such lovely people and great company and did so much work with the wonderful Swindon Club

I was sorry to hear this news. My sympathies are with all those who know her and love her. I have added her name to the "In Memoriam" thread alongside Ted. RIP

Time spent in the company of Ted & Ivy was always thoroughly enjoyable and well spent. They were both walking libraries of the folk revival.

With Ivy's death,a huge and integral link to the folk/political roots of the sixties is broken.
