A new episode of "The Old Songs Podcast" features Squeezy John Spiers discussing the art of being a musician for Morris sides, with special focus on his love of the Princess Royal tune. Lots of history talk, too, about the tune's origins. Might be of interest.

Have a listen here.

1) You need to be able to play while on the move.
2) You need to keep on the move to avoid things being thrown at you ;)

It is a special capabillity to be able to keep on playing while being physiclly assaulted as I once had to do outside Ely Cathedral!

That was North West Morris not hanky waving.

Here's a great example of Nigel's Point #1, which is referenced in the podcast. A terrific program, it is too... all episodes have been entertaining and informative.

As a long term morris dancer and trainee concertina player I am seriously impressed by those last two posts.

Well, they were jumping high. But I was more impressed with Lisa Austin' s tiny girls playing and clogging.

OK I can do neither, even one at a time
