Subject: Major Contay and the Canebrake Rattlers? From: GUEST,Teefy Date: 16 Feb 23 - 08:24 PM Hello, I was looking into the works of Pat Conte. I know he did some cool compilation work and had a briefly running radio show with WFMU covering 78 rpm records called Secret Museum of the Air (which I still haven't listened to yet, hopefully will later this month). He was in Major Contay & The Canebrake Rattlers, and one of their albums, Old Familiar Tunes, is readily accessible online. As for the other albums though... Searching Major Contay and the Canebrake Rattlers - Songs Of The Hills And Plains with the album name in quotes gives only two hits on Google and reverse searching the album art from one of them gives one other hit which led no where. There are more hits for their other album, When The Yankees Came Down. Anyone here familiar with these albums? It always feels weird to see an album and think I might go to my grave never hearing it, haha. The absolute dream would be to find mp3s of either of these albums, but even just hearing some more about them would be neat! Thank you all, Teefy |
Subject: RE: Major Contay and the Canebrake Rattlers? From: cnd Date: 17 Feb 23 - 09:33 AM My searching indicates you're pretty right that these albums are few and far between. I only found one recording from any of their albums that you hadn't already, though I did find quite a few live recordings you may not have seen. Subject: RE: Major Contay and the Canebrake Rattlers? From: GUEST,Teefy Date: 17 Feb 23 - 12:39 PM Wow, thank you so much! Both for the recordings to check out and for that interview. I had come across their 2008 one in The Old Time Herald, but not the Fast Folk one. I am glad to find out there is a good amount of their live stuff out there, even if their studio albums are a bit lost to the sands of time right now. Maybe they will pop up one day when someone goes through the boxes in their attic. One can always hope. - Teefy |
Subject: RE: Major Contay and the Canebrake Rattlers? From: cnd Date: 17 Feb 23 - 01:39 PM Glad to help! If I ever come across any of their stuff at a reasonable price, I'll be glad to do my part in disseminating it. The tricky thing in finding the Fast Folk interview is that they misspelled the name as the Canebreak Rattlers rather than Canebrake. A few other YouTube videos did as well. |
