Subject: RE: BS?: Who do you want to be today ? From: northfolk/al cholger Date: 19 Jan 00 - 06:38 PM Maybe my take on this is wrought from a recent bad experience, but every day that I get up I want to be myself. I originally posted with the ID northfolk, but felt that may be disingenuous, because I regularly conveyed what I considered politically serious messages, and wanted no question raised about how deeply I stood for those positions, so I added my name to my pseudonym. Recently I became the victim of identity theft. It has not made me (too) bitter, nor has it increased my cynicism,or diminished my faith in my fellow human beings, (other than I would dearly love to have thirty minutes in a room with the thief, so that he could fully come to appreciate my (6'5", 235 lb.) magesterial presence....) I know that we don't always know who we are communicating with, online, but I hope this current thing goes away! |
Subject: RE: BS?: Who do you want to be today ? From: GUEST,emily rain at the U Dub Date: 19 Jan 00 - 05:14 PM thanks for both those links, Andy. why is it so hard for us to learn these things? |
Subject: RE: BS?: Who do you want to be today ? From: Áine Date: 19 Jan 00 - 02:57 PM Thank you, Andy G. I agree with sophocleese that it is very bizarre! However, it was also very, very informative and relative to what has been happening here. I encourage everyone to read it, and perhaps we'll be better able to deal with the 'trolls' when and if they show up again. -- Áine |

Subject: RE: BS?: Who do you want to be today ? From: Roger the skiffler Date: 19 Jan 00 - 11:24 AM At the risk of sounding serious for once, well done, Andy. I've always found your contributions helpful. I agree about not getting drawn in to abusive threads and trying to signal attempts at "humour" (God knows I have to signal mine, they're so feeble!). A welcome dose of commonsense. RtS |
Subject: RE: BS?: Who do you want to be today ? From: Peg Date: 19 Jan 00 - 10:52 AM thanks so much, Andy for reminding many of us of what we already know and often forget in the heat of the moment. It feels like betrayal when a safe haven like Mudcat explodes with dishonesty or misguided pranks... I thought the comment about the Japanese Kate Rusby fan not sharing my views on gun control was priceless...lends itself to other interesting parallels...like a French Capercaille fan's views on the abortion pill...a Portuguese Dick Gaughan fan's feelings on irradiated produce...a Brazilian Clannad fan's opinion about deforestation...etc etc... all the best peg |
Subject: RE: BS?: Who do you want to be today ? From: Little dorritt Date: 19 Jan 00 - 10:07 AM thank's for that AndyG - I had not seen that before, there was one part that was hilarious under the heading internet community- where it says .. do not expect an english attempt at humour to be universally understood... well, I'm speechless!! |
Subject: BS?: Who do you want to be today ? From: AndyG Date: 19 Jan 00 - 09:45 AM ahem...
Unaccustomed as I am etc. etc.
