Subject: RE: Songs for King Charles's Coronation From: Tattie Bogle Date: 22 Apr 23 - 10:38 AM Apart from the two mentioned so far, there are plenty of “Charlie” songs relating to Bonnie Prince Charlie. How about “Boat me oe’er to Charlie” or “Come O’er the Stream Charlie and dine wi’ Maclean”? I don’t think Jim McLean would be too keen on such a meeting! |
Subject: RE: Songs for King Charles's Coronation From: GUEST,Diolch Date: 22 Apr 23 - 12:42 PM On which subject, I sang Jim McLean's "King Charles, King Charles, you say that you care" to the tune of the nursery rhyme Sweet Mary (Adew Dundee family of tunes, I think?) in public and the audience enjoyed it. I've also done Vic Gammon's Kings and Queens of England several times now and got positive responses. |
Subject: RE: Songs for King Charles's Coronation From: Jim McLean Date: 23 Apr 23 - 03:03 AM Tattie Bogle, as I’ve said somewhere else my favourite song would be “Will ye DEFINITELY no come back again”. |
Subject: RE: Songs for King Charles's Coronation From: Tattie Bogle Date: 23 Apr 23 - 07:48 AM Ha-ha! I thought it would be! A friend has just alerted me to another - "Wha'll be King but Charlie?" -variously sung by Alastair McDonald and The Tannahill Weavers. |

Subject: RE: Songs for King Charles's Coronation From: GUEST,Rossey Date: 30 Apr 23 - 08:13 PM To the tune you cannae shove yer grannie off a bus. It works better with a Glasgow accent. Viral football chant. Glasgow Celtic started it. This has united rival football fans on Twitter. Many of us Scots are up in arms about the cheek of being asked to swear a nauseating oath of allegiance to old jug ears and his hatchet faced wife, in a blatant propaganda gesture. The result is what was was heard on the terraces today. Oh you can shove yer Coronation up yer arse. you can shove yer Coronation up yer arse. You can shove yer coronation Shove yer coronation Shove yer coronation up yer arse. Repeat until fed up or if in the street in front of police, possibly arrested. |

Subject: RE: Songs for King Charles's Coronation From: GUEST,Rossey Date: 02 May 23 - 04:51 PM Gallus Moll, I take no responsibility for any arrests that may occur as a result of the use of this chant! I am not OTT about being Scottish -but on this occasion especially, the sentiment and unity expressed would bring a tear to a glass eye. I am proud of them all! Ha! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XExEXdlMlUw |

Subject: RE: Songs for King Charles's Coronation From: GUEST,Guest ABCD Date: 07 May 23 - 06:49 PM With the implication, I take it, that the REAL, de iure, Charles III of Great Britain actually died in 1788. Perhaps, given his interest in learning from many sources (about "faiths", for instance), an appropriate, indeed a fitting, title for the current illegitimate usurper might be "Charles the Absorbent". Quite closely, indeed snugly and comfortably, fitting, some might recognise, given his recorded views. |
Subject: RE: Songs for King Charles's Coronation From: voyager Date: 07 May 23 - 07:24 PM From Arthur McBride - a song that led me to 'Rise Up Singing' "Good morning, good morning, " the sergeant did cry "And the same to you gentlemen, " we did reply "Intending no harm but meant to pass by" "For it being on christmas morning" But says he, "My fine fellows if you would enlist" "It's ten guineas of gold I will slip in your fist" "And a crown in the bargain for to kick up the dust" "And drink the king's health in the morning" "For a soldier he leads a very fine life" "And he always is blessed with a charming young wife" "And he pays all his debts without sorrow and strife" "And always lives pleasant and charming" "And a soldier he always is decent and clean" "In the finest of clothing he is constantly seen" "While other poor fellows go dirty and mean" "And sup on thin gruel in the morning" But says Arthur, "I wouldn't be proud of your clothes" "For you've only the lend of them as I suppose" "And you dare not change them one night for you know" "If you do you'll be flogged in the morning" "And although that we are single and free" "We take great delight in our own company" "And we have no desires strange faces to see" "Although that your offers are charming" not a monarchist voyager |
Subject: ADD: Coronation Blues - Charles III From: Joe Offer Date: 25 May 23 - 02:28 AM Gayle Wade sent me these lyrics: CORONATION BLUES (songwriter: ???) Woke up this morning, Tumbled out of bed; Pa’s going to the Abbey Have a crown put on his head Oh-oh yea, they’re gonna put it on his head. No one’s gonna crown me unless half my family drops dead. CHORUS: I’ve got the coronation blues It’s driving me insane. The coronation blues I want you all to feel my pain. Oh yes, I’ve got the coronation blues It’s no fun being ginger, It’s no fun being spare But like I tell my brother – At least I’ve got my hair! Oh-oh yeah I’ve got a lovely head of hair! Nobody calls me baldy; the royal heir is short of hair. My missus stayed at home; She isn’t here to sit by me. She’s made it pretty clear That she don’t like my family Oh-oh no, she doesn’t like my family. The smoke of burning bridges hangs around both her and me. CHORUS: That woman with the crown on, She shouldn’t be the Queen, My Mum’s the Queen – the Queen of Hearts! That’s how it should have been. Oh-oh yeah, that’s how it really should have been. Pa should have loved her better, didn’t have to treat her mean. I’m leaving in the morning, I’m leaving on a plane, I’m getting out of this old town And I won’t be back again. Oh-oh no, you’ll never see me back again. I’m staying in America to get away from this hard reign. CHORUS: I’ve got the coronation blues It’s driving me insane. The coronation blues I want you all to feel my pain. Oh no, nobody’s gonna crown me … I’ve got the coronation blues Here's Gayle's demo recording: click |
