Subject: Tom Brown From: Hesk Date: 06 Sep 23 - 03:50 PM Tom Brown, who was well known on the UK folk scene, has sadly passed away in late August. He made a number of CDs with his wife, Barbara Brown, at Wild Goose Studios. Although I did not know him well, he was always friendly towards myself and my wife. I know there are others who knew them far better, and hope they can add some info to this thread about their many projects and involvement with the running of festivals and singing weekends. |

Subject: RE: 2023 Obit: Tom Brown From: Anne Lister Date: 09 Sep 23 - 09:00 AM I'm surprised not to see more tributes to Tom. He and Barbara sang together and ran music clubs in west London for many years before moving to Combe Martin in Devon, where they were also running music events. They were a key element in Broadstairs festival with their singaround sessions. A lovely, warm and supportive man who had a wealth of knowledge about traditional music and folklore. He will be hugely missed. I'm sure there's a lot more to be said about his life and achievements from his many friends. |
Subject: RE: 2023 Obit: Tom Brown From: Hesk Date: 10 Sep 23 - 04:48 AM Anne, I too am surprised. Maybe the many friends of Tom, and Barbara, are not on Mudcat anymore. Thank you for filling in a few of the details in your post above. |
Subject: RE: 2023 Obit: Tom Brown From: MoorleyMan Date: 10 Sep 23 - 09:59 AM I agree with Anne. In the beginning I'd thought the thread might've been started but disappeared when the Cat was down, but apparently not. Tom, along with his lovely wife Barbara, was without doubt a major force on the UK folk scene, among its warmest, most welcoming and generous - and hugely knowledgeable - personalities, and a great singer. He will be massively missed. My deepest sympathies to Barbara and his many many friends. RIP, Tom. |
Subject: RE: 2023 Obit: Tom Brown From: John MacKenzie Date: 11 Sep 23 - 03:25 AM I first met Tom and Barbara at Broadstairs Folk Week where they ran the sing around at the Yacht Club for several years. I always enjoyed their singing and they are/were lovely people. Barbara became a Facebook friend and so I kept up with Tom's health battles through her posts on there.Sadly he has now left us and I send condolences to Barbara and the rest of his family. Here's to you Tom Brown RIP. |
