There was a minstrel song called "Sallie Gooden and Jenny Weaver" in 1848, apparently to a different tune. The earliest reference I've seen to "Sally Gooden" as a dance tune is from 1878 - in Minnesota! |

It's probably no coincidence, though, that the 1848 minstrel song concerns two characters with fiddle-tune names. |
