Subject: Who were (are) Gallowglass From: GUEST,Greum Date: 11 Oct 23 - 02:29 PM Does anyone have any information about a band (or maybe a duo) called Gallowglass? I have 2 or 3 mp3 tracks of theirs from an album called Sparven: I Once Loved A Lass and Gallowglass-The_Macedonian_Set_-_Rada_PereCacek but I can find no information about them. |

Subject: RE: Who were (are) Gallowglass From: GUEST,Jim Bainbridge Date: 14 Oct 23 - 12:25 PM The Gallowglass Ceili Band were huge during the 50s & 60s & able to make a living with afew more musicians than most, who were forced to reduce their numbers. Can't say I heard much about them but I do remember there being vast numbers of their LPs in every junk/charity shop I went in searching for Zonophone 78s |

Subject: RE: Who were (are) Gallowglass From: cnd Date: 11 Oct 23 - 04:03 PM Looks like this is the album: Gallowglass – Sparven - Music From European Traditions from New Zealand, dated 1998. There's a list of artists on the 3rd image: - Alex Cormack - guitar, mandola, mandolin, percussion, vocal, sequencing - Chrissie Butler - high & low whistles, descant recorder, vocals - Sue Prescott - treble & descant recorder, high whistles - Lisa Beech - violin, viola - Adam Gallagher - bass Here's an archive of their website, from 1999: https://web.archive.org/web/19990223200217/http://crash.ihug.co.nz/~alexa/: "Gallowglass are an established acoustic/electric band playing a wide range of European music, from England, from Southern and Eastern Europe, and from the Celtic traditions of Brittany, Scotland and Ireland. Whilst our base is in the folk tradition, we combine both early and modern influences to produce an exciting and innovative sound." |
