Subject: Folklore: Kist o Riches Project - Allan Palmer

Hi all,

I'm writing on behalf of Kist o Riches (tobarandualchais.co.uk) - an online archival resource which digitises and makes available thousands of archival recordings in Scots, English and Gaelic from the School of Scottish Studies, the National Trust (Canna Collection), and the BBC Gaelic Department. We have made over 46,000 recordings available online since the launch of our website in 2010, and continue to carry out this work today.

We have recently had the privilege of adding hundreds of recordings carried out by an Allan Palmer to our website. The rights to the recordings have been assigned to the School of Scottish Studies, but we currently have next to no information about the man himself.

We would love to be able to tell our users more about Allan, perhaos with a biography and a photo, but have been unable to trace him or his family.

Does anymore here have any memory of Allan, or even any information about him? He recorded mostly at the Kinross Traditional Music Festival. He also recorded Jane Turriff extensively.

Any help or information at all would be very much appreciated! Feel free to reply to this post, or send an email to myself, Fraser McRobert (Copyright Officer) at fm.smo@uhi.ac.uk.

I have no idea myself but I may well know some people who can help. I'll pass the message on to them.

Kinross was organised by the TMSA. Have you contacted them to ask ? One name which comes to mind who might be able to help would be Pete Shepherd.

Many thanks for your replies and offers of help.

We will definitely contact the TMSA to see if they know more. And we'll try and get a hold of Peter Shepherd.

Best wishes,
Fraser
