Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Donuel Date: 07 Nov 23 - 04:44 PM Hands down Rap got the last post on the resurrected MOAB thread. What parodies and poetries of the thread are dead and lost forever to never be seen again. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Donuel Date: 07 Nov 23 - 09:31 PM Turns out that putting all the Trump post eggs in one basket was a bad idea. History is written by the winners. Destroying counter histories is part of that process. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Donuel Date: 07 Nov 23 - 09:55 PM It turns out the daughter of the King of BS, Ivanka, suffered injuries from a malfunctioning court X-ray security machine. The 'extruded plastic implants' in her nose face and breasts de-adhered and sagged from the overheated radiation. An emergency plastic surgery procedure will try to reverse the accident to change the result that resembles Rosie O'Donnell. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Donuel Date: 15 Nov 23 - 03:16 PM I did not know that about Roseanne. MOAB has been a sanctuary for the biggest whoppers as well as the deepest truths, art, and confessions. In the last 5 to 8 years the police and federal government have used a technology called Stingray made by Harris Corporation and its clandestine use has been reported in the WSJ. It can be handheld, driven around, or fly high by drone over populations that have cell phone use. It acts like a cell tower that takes everything without permission. Untold numbers of immigrants have been located and all their data collected. It has also been used to collect all the data of protesters like the women's march after the Trump inauguration. What is wrong with this practice is that a search warrant is not requested to take all of the data. Its like the 4th amendment has disappeared. Many aspects of our current information crises are covered in the documentary 'Web of Make Believe', death lies & the internet. |

Subject: RE: DECLUTTER * Health/Home Ecologic-Innovation *2023 From: Donuel Date: 19 Nov 23 - 07:27 AM There is a health innovation that is prone to AI discovery that is too complex for the human mind. It is the folding of proteins in our cells that are governed by our genes. The errors in the shape of proteins are relatively many and either correct themselves or sends cells into self-destruct mode. There are hundreds of disorders and disease systems that can result from misshapen proteins. Some may make you feel like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed and others can cause retinitis pigmentosa or dementia. We did reverse a couple malformed proteins and restored vision in mice but doing so for humans and the hundreds of cooperating genes is well in the future. We used to crowd source computer space to solve protein problems but AI may speed up this process. Put a pin in it. |
Subject: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 07 Nov 23 - 10:06 AM The original Mother of all BS threads had 59238 posts when it expired, and many thousands more lost in a couple of major Mudcat crashes. The MOAB - Mother of All BS [annex] has a puny (but poetic) 3636 posts. It has died the death of a thousand 500 codes, kept from dropping off the bottom of the page solely with infusions of posts transferred there by moderation. This thread is one that will look at some of the historic original posts. Because you can see them if you know where to look - the original folks who posted there all have post histories that include their MOAB posts, even if you can't open the thread itself. So posting links to a few of the original participants will help revisit MOM's glory days, when Tweed and Khandu and Amos and Bee-dubya-ell and others dropped in to tell stories and share poetry. I'll move over a couple of the last posts from the [annex] thread to see if we can give this one some legs to run with, so this "first" post will probably drop down the list some. How's this for a little Mudelf magic? There are posts from the original MOM thread! ---mudelf |

I'd suggest using Rosanne Barr who actually hangs out with the family and/or their attorneys. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: keberoxu Date: 07 Nov 23 - 03:09 PM I guess this means that we can't post to the annex thread any more? Then where will all the current BS go? |

Subject: RE: BS: New news *not* about the virus From: Donuel Date: 28 Nov 23 - 08:47 AM I will name the iceberg Donueland and charge fees for tourists on the mystery cruise. It is spring and summer for the iceberg and it should last until winter when a second season is possible. Icebergs melt from the bottom up at a millimeter a second. At 1000 feet thick it could really last a long time. With any luck, I hope it eventually docks in the Seychelles but Australia is possible. Comon down and beat the heat of global warming. Up here this is the winter for discount tents so bring your tent and money for the improv restaurants via flights from South Africa. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 01 Dec 23 - 10:14 PM If you don't know, I fell outside my room in a hotel in Oslo, Norway. I have a REAL shiner of a black eye and my glasses frame cut a slit just below my right eyebrow. It's quite a mess and yes, there was a decent amount of blood shed (some of it got on the cover the book I had just purchased). When I finally got up I located the things I'd been carrying and got into the room, from which I called my wife. I went to the front desk and reported the incident. I chose not to go to the doctor/hospital/ambulance/etc. When I got back home I made an appointment with my ophthalmologist and primary care medico. The latter I saw yesterday (also about a cold I have contracted) and the former today. Apart from being achy and have an "eye area bruise" that's a real beauty, I'm just a bit vertiginous now and then. Yesterday the PCP told me to take the cough medicine and be VERY careful for a while when walking, etc. The eye doctor told me that I was "damend lucky" because apart from "giving your eye a shaking up there isn't anything I can see that's wrong." Of course, both said the come quickly or even go to the ER/AE if problems develop, stuff like flashes of light, which can indicate a detached retina. Stuff I don't want to have. Anyway, that's the run down on my injury. The fall occurred last Sunday, five days ago. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: keberoxu Date: 03 Dec 23 - 02:11 PM Sorry that happened to you, Rapparee. I had a fall last month, still nursing a hurt knee from it. Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 04 Dec 23 - 08:05 PM It gets worse. Pat (my wife) went to the ER Saturday. Testing showed COVID, rhinovirus, and a couple other things. She asked to go. This is her third COVID case, she has residuals from the first two. She is taking I don’t know how many medicines right now. I’m trying to hold it all together until she’s at least a little better. She is, however, at home this time. I told the Legion I got the eye fighting with a troll. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Donuel Date: 08 Dec 23 - 09:11 AM There are several 'To Catch a Smuggler' shows. The detection seems to be done primarily by trained dogs and Xrays. Cartels might be interested in a workaround for those 2 challenges. Unlike enzymatic formulas that work slowly and leave odors behind, Pooph dismantles odors on a molecular level to eliminate them at the source --turning any organic odor into clean fresh air. It's as if the odor was never there! And as powerful as it is Pooph is safe for people, pets, your home, and the planet. That leaves X-ray detection unless a product is changed to be the same density and specific gravity as the medium it is inside. Instead of dense hard bricks, a foam version of the product could render it invisible. They would have to trade more volume for the same old dense quantity Shhh, don't tell the criminals. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 08 Dec 23 - 08:28 PM Make the shipping container out of the same material being smuggled. For instance, a suitcase made of diamond would have the same density at the diamonds being smuggled and therefore the smuggled diamonds would be undetectable on an x-ray. |

Satire or sense, alas! can Sporus feel? Who breaks a butterfly upon a wheel?" Yet let me flap this bug with gilded wings, This painted child of dirt that stinks and stings; Whose buzz the witty and the fair annoys, Yet wit ne'er tastes, and beauty ne'r enjoys, So well-bred spaniels civilly delight In mumbling of the game they dare not bite. Eternal smiles his emptiness betray, As shallow streams run dimpling all the way. Whether in florid impotence he speaks, And, as the prompter breathes, the puppet squeaks; Or at the ear of Eve, familiar toad, Half froth, half venom, spits himself abroad, In puns, or politics, or tales, or lies, Or spite, or smut, or rhymes, or blasphemies. His wit all see-saw, between that and this , Now high, now low, now Master up, now Miss, And he himself one vile antithesis. Amphibious thing! that acting either part, The trifling head, or the corrupted heart, Fop at the toilet, flatt'rer at the board, Now trips a lady, and now struts a lord. Eve's tempter thus the rabbins have express'd, A cherub's face, a reptile all the rest; Beauty that shocks you, parts that none will trust, Wit that can creep, and pride that licks the dust. And which I now dedicate to a certain Don Juan in Florida. |

Subject: Its time to condemn Simon Says games. From: Donuel Date: 14 Feb 24 - 09:18 AM The 'average person' gets a bad rap. At least I hope so. Most politicians are willing to say the average American is exceedingly stupid. Worse than that it is said stupid average people are in the majority. IF true, those who can manipulate the average person must ensure that the average person stays stupid and never smarten up. There is plenty of evidence that the ignorance campaign is alive and well. Part of that campaign is to convince the rest of us that the average person is stupid. I believe that is a big fat lie. Barricades to the smart average people are internet apps, cults, and weakest links to religion. Rewarding old hateful knowledge is also a strategy. Its time to exclaim the wisdom of the average person. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Feb 24 - 10:31 AM So much depends on context. When headlines say "Florida man" did this or that (in the non-Trump meaning) it tends to say average or below average who you've never heard of. If you want to do the math then in the spread, 25% would be below average, you could give the middle 26 to 50% as average, and the top IQ or some other functional measurement to the 76-100% of the group. Or you could do 33.3 for each group. 100% of the people who vote for the majority of the GOP slate of electors at least have a screw loose if they can't figure out that they're being taken to the cleaners by Trump's gang. |

Just make sure that, when you're leading your zombie army, you don't trip over. Some politicians don't care, some will feign a prayer. The shooter had a moment of satisfaction probably stemming from bullying at some point. The victims include 8 children with gunshot wounds. What they are feeling is beyond my comprehension. This rips apart the spirit, destroys hope and kills safety in all celebrations. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Donuel Date: 21 Feb 24 - 02:47 PM With the sudden disappearance of my stalker, I found I was suffering from a version of the Stockholm effect. Perhaps he had found his true calling and became the author, editor, and publisher of 'Critic's Corner' where all critics of every genre were criticized. It would have a companion book 'The Autocritocrisy of the World's Greatest Critic'. While the book was full of glowing self-praise, 'Critics Corner' was a scathing digital profane diatribe of libelous insults. Perhaps the book propelled the online critics corner or simply the phenomenon of the most negative influencer caught on, but in no time there were more followers than on Truth Social. This success was followed up with emails from MAGA internet threateners, Swatters, and apps from stalkers of young women influencers that have had threats via Venn diagram information of every person who was acquainted. Stalking and threatening turned out to be a huge industry. Suddenly my exstalker was a small fish in a big sea. To be as important as he desired meant that he had to become a global villain and that did not have the appeal he had always wanted. Stopping hurt and torture had some withdrawal symptoms but soon he felt happier than before. He had time to enjoy life and lived happily ever after. |

Subject: RE: DECLUTTER *hoards *bad habits *toxic stuff - 2024 From: Donuel Date: 02 Mar 24 - 01:20 PM What is toxic is the manipulation and addiction society. We used to be a tool and skill society. Now apps on your phone, that you do not know is there; will measure your dopamine reward levels and lets you play against AI features for your attention. Its not a fair fight. Suicide levels have doubled for adolescents exposed to social trashing techniques by other users whose playground has addictive app features. Speaking of users, there are drug users and tech users but for other things we are customers, clients or patients. Smart and secure people can use the internet rabbit hole to investigate many issues. The negative rabbit holes are tunnels of disinformation like Pizzagate and the holy Trump. Tools of persuasion normally move slowly Like Nazi laws that gradually criminalized a certain branch of society. Facebook and other techs can move faster. I addressed addiction by limiting hypnosis sessions to three. More than that would be considered unnecessary but possibly helpful. Apps have no limits on there growth. AI will never solve the problem of fake news. The existential threat is as real and abusive to democracy as slavery. Laws against addictive tech is a rational eventual outcome. I hope. But I am the odd man out who does not use or carry a digital phone. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Donuel Date: 13 Mar 24 - 11:31 AM Naturally, a well-trained orthopedist would benefit from well-honed carpentry skills which is not the nonsense Maggie implied. My ultimate point is that our limited 5 senses can not image the quantum realm without a virtual imagination. Atoms are not spheres with orbiting particles like planetary mechanics. Atoms are more like vibrating energy fields that operate more like perpetual motion particle waves. Imagination can unlock the concept that what we perceive as solid is actually empty space that also contains vibratory energy. Energy and mass are two aspects of the same thing just as space and time are a different aspect of a similar energy. It helps to have an artist's concept to imagine the reality of our quantum universe. The quality of the mind's eye and imagination is our best tool to know more of the universe and scientists speculate that we only know about 4% of reality. Math is our other best tool. Even the art of music offers clues to the quantum world. It seems like a particle occupying the same space at the same time is a paradox but music allows for two or more frequencies in the same sound space without confusion. The wisdom of the music is that the relationship between the notes is most important in the effect it has. It is said truth is beauty and beauty is truth. It is in our mind that beauty exists. If the universe has a consciousness it too may perceive beauty. If not, the universe is blind. I doubt that. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: gillymor Date: 13 Mar 24 - 11:55 AM The skills required of an orthopedic surgeon are so far in advance of what even a master carpenter can do that what you're proposing is pure nonsense. Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Donuel Date: 13 Mar 24 - 12:34 PM The connection between art and science is particularly evident to me lately. Trial and error with experimentation separates imagination from truth. It is a slow but accelerating process. There is such a chasm between intelligence and wisdom I would say institutional insanity has been the predominant human story so far. Our nuclear weapon race is but one example. US gun policy is a microcosm of the mass destruction industry. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Donuel Date: 14 Mar 24 - 11:42 AM dyslexia is a different door to perception that can have savant aspects but fails at school regimes. It is also a gift with negative externalities. Imagination and dreams make for poor science but truly great leaps do come from imaginative unlikely places in rare circumstances. These leaps are not intuitive and are often not accepted for years. IF YOU TRY TO GRAVITATIONALIZE THE QUANTUM WORLD, people would think you are nuts since no one has succeeded with quantum gravity. However, if you allow macro gravity to convert to an electrical potential of a pair of gluons in the quantum world we may have united some important theories. Just look at dust bunnies that coalesce by electric charge or asteroidal dust that combines. All energies seem to have the ability to exist in another form whether it is mass and energy or a neutrino which can metamorphose into a different neutrino. This notion would simplify many energy relationships. But in the meantime since we can't even find evidence for supersymmetry this idea will be put on hold. Everyone who looks at it agrees that quantum mechanics is incomplete. Finding its form of gravity will not complete its nature. Science has been called the new religion. It is true that most of it can be as dull as church. A great breakthrough will probably have to bypass administration. Such a breakthrough will probably demonstrate that converting space into time may exceed the energy that converts mass into energy. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Donuel Date: 17 Mar 24 - 08:12 PM Trephination refers to the process of creating a hole in the skull and, in specific cases, the nail and is one of the oldest surgical procedures documented to date. It has been used throughout history with the goal of relieving pressure; managing symptoms of head trauma, such as subdural and epidural hematomas; and accessing brain tumors. Trephination can be performed using a trephine, a drill, by scraping with an abrasive instrument, or for the hard headed, cutting with a jackhammer. Rare complications that may arise with trephination include infection and, if the dura matter surrounding the brain is damaged in the process, damage to the underlying blood vessels, meninges, and brain. Modern medicine has used trephination as part of treatments for frontal sinus disease, glaucoma, and subungual hematomas. Newagers believe that Akashic memories and signals from the universe are enhanced with trephination. |

The sprinkler people come out, replaced the bent pipe comprising the top rail of the back fence, dug out and replaced TWO breaks in the main sprinkler line in the back yard, and replaced a busted sprinkler head. I had planned to do other things today that mess with routers, satellites, IP addresses, and suchlike nonsense. Of course, neither had I planned to do what the sprinkler guys did. Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 28 Apr 24 - 02:11 PM Rap, having to set up or restore the home system is the price we pay for not letting the IP company send a tech out who fiddles with stuff and leaves you with whatever their default setting is, and not giving you much information. I've helped several friends with the systems the cable or phone company left behind, usually with setting up a booster or extra ports for the router. If I ever get the house leveled (right now it is at its most level time of the year, the soil is moist and the cracks have almost disappeared in the walls and at the ceiling edge) I'll put in a sprinkler system. That I will diagram and supervise because too often those sprinkler guys just wing it. (Neighbors up the street paid for a high dollar system only to find later that they put in a cheap set of buried hoses and such, workmen long gone along with their cash). MOM should have Gluon train to help with this stuff, I bet a duckdog would be great at digging and working out the water end of things. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 28 Apr 24 - 09:07 PM We have a good sprinkler system and good sprinkler techs. We do NOT have good weather or control over tiny earthquakes which barely move a seismograph needle. Or rodents that live underground and gnaw on plastic sprinkler pipes and whom I shall feed a poison dinner as soon as I am able. Yes, I shall be certain that what I use is well underground and that the corpses are not when they might be eaten by the various hawks, owls, eagles, and other critters who frequent the golf course behind the house. Oddly enough, the cops take a dim view of shooting in the city limits, even with an air rifle (BB gun). I'd trap them, but releasing them out in the national forest is nearly certain death for them anyway. I've checked before and our animal control bunch doesn't deal with moles, voles, skunks, feral cats, and certain others. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 29 Apr 24 - 07:55 PM Stilly, I agree about lead poisoning. The cops and the city, however, frown on it. Otherwise I'd just use a .22 or an air rifle. But...I have a friend who is a legal trapper and supports his family partially by the pelts he sells and the money he makes trapping for various ranchers. He's very ethical and may have another suggestion. I'll ask him. I could be persuaded to do nothing, except that the tunnels run downhill from my lawn to the golf course and I don't want my backyard to develop a bad case of erosion. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Donuel Date: 02 May 24 - 05:28 PM The firemen and police left a half hour ago. It all started by leaving the car interior lights on. I accidentally hit the switch when I opened the sunroof days ago. I have seen episodes of airplane disasters when the pilot hit the wrong switch. I didn't expect I would do the same. This morning the door opened but it would not start, dead battery. I could call AAA and get a jump but I thought if I waited when it was 90 degrees it might start this afternoon. So when I went out an hour ago the door would not even open. Aha a tow truck driver taught me how to unlock the door if disabled due to an attempted break-in or dead battery. There is a secret key slot at the rear of the car that opens the trunk and from there a hidden cable that can be pulled to open the door. It all worked so now I could unlatch the hood. I was feeling pretty smart when I sat down. Muscle memory was closing the door when my brain said don't do that. Click. I was now locked in a small 90 degree car with no horn or phone. The windows were sealed but by lying down and kicking it I could jam a pair of scissors and umbrella in the crack to get an inch of air by bending the window outward. I was winded and hot from the kicking so I took of my shirt. Eventually my neighbor was unloading her kids when she heard my yell for help. She called the fire dept and I gave my info through the small window opening. I heard the sirens when the first lady cop arrived. I explained how to find the secret cable to unlock the door while she held a window breaker. It worked and I explained to the firemen how she had opened the door and thanked them all. She wanted to know how I knew about the secret cable and I explained about the tow truck driver. I thanked the neighbor and went in the house. My wife was none the wiser wearing her noise cancelling headphones and in a meeting about ribosomic DNA. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Donuel Date: 05 May 24 - 06:14 PM Katagelasticism is a psychological condition in which a person excessively enjoys mocking others. Katagelasticists actively seek and establish situations in which they can laugh at others (at the expense of these people). There is a broad variety of things that katagelasticists would do—starting from harmless pranks or word plays to truly embarrassing and even harmful, mean-spirited jokes. They would be of the opinion that mocking others is part of the daily life and if others do not like being laughed at, they should just fight back. For katagelasticists, it is fun mocking others and there is almost nothing that might hinder them from doing so. For them, some people might even provoke getting mocked. This condition often makes it difficult for sufferers behave on social media. however some deserve mockery |

Apparently some ne're-do-wells in Pocatello got reckless with fireworks yesterday and started a brush fire DOWNHILL from a bunch of houses. The FD evacuated several of the homes and folks couldn't return for some hours. The FD also was very, very grateful to the goddess of the wind for not doing her usual thing and blowing her wind uphill, as that could have wiped out a whole neighborhood not too far from where we live. That would have also taken out Big Lots, Ridley's Supermarket, and AAA Office -- not to mention sparks and cinders blowing across and setting fire the the local Fire Station. The reunion was fun, saw relatives I hadn’t seen in years. Gluon showed up, of course, and tried to hump Ziggy (a pug) who objected vociferously. No fights, no real excitement like in the past. The only cops who showed up were retired family members. Ah well. Ou sont les neiges d’antan? |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 25 Jul 24 - 06:52 PM I’m back home and plodding again through medical appointments. The last of the trip laundry is done. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 30 Jul 24 - 11:19 PM MOM's working - the original thread (for now, anyway) - BS: The Mother of all BS threads. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: keberoxu Date: 02 Aug 24 - 02:20 PM Well, that was quick -- the Mother of all BS Threads is closed for repairs now. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 02 Aug 24 - 05:59 PM Ah well! It was nice to see Mom again, even briefly. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Aug 24 - 08:30 PM It was! But I think that what happens is that trolls or whoever does DNS stuff open it several times in a row and that ties up the Mudcat bandwidth. If you go to your own posts and look for those that went to the MOAB you can see it piecemeal. There are ways. . . I suggested to Max that he probably needed to pull the plug if we want to use the rest of the site. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 04 Aug 24 - 12:15 PM Goddard to to top! |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: MaJoC the Filk Date: 04 Aug 24 - 06:01 PM Humble suggestion: Is it possible to arrange for the Old Thread to be viewed one page at a time, eg by using the link-to-first-page links on the index page, while keeping the full thread closed? I'm fully aware I'm flouting my own "don't say JUST" rule here, as there'll doubtless be some severe magic underneath each such link which needs no further complication. .... Or did I suggest that before? |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 04 Aug 24 - 06:33 PM You can see parts of it but it involves searching on individuals who posted to it and then looking at their posts and going from there. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 05 Aug 24 - 08:11 PM You can search for me, for Amos, for any number of people Bee-dubya-ell is a good one, as is MMario. I'll post more of our brethren as I think of them. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 08 Aug 24 - 03:22 PM MOM! You will never guess what I get to do this evening! For example, right now I'm dictating this! Directly dictating this! |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Little Hawk Date: 08 Aug 24 - 05:00 PM Okay, what sounds weirder as a Native American tribal name...the Kickapoos or the Passamaquoddy? And then there are the Penobscots, who do not hail from Scotland. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 09 Aug 24 - 08:56 PM How about the Salish, the Tlingit, the Potawatomi, the Shoshone, the Abseroka? "Yes, I'd like the Abseroka, medium rare, with the Tlingit Salish, and I'll have the huckleberry Shoshone for dessert." |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: keberoxu Date: 10 Aug 24 - 02:46 PM In New England it would include Wampanoag. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Little Hawk Date: 12 Aug 24 - 11:30 AM I think the Potawatomi win the prize! |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 12 Aug 24 - 08:06 PM Not the Nimiipuu? Or the Haudenosaunee? Or the Absaalooke (little though they are)? |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 12 Aug 24 - 11:43 PM Skykomish, Swinomish, Snohomish, Wahkiakum, Skagit, Yakima, Kittitas, Skamania, Walla Walla - and those are the anglicised versions of the names. The Pacific Northwest has some great names. You want a good password? Try Whatcom or Nooksack. Add a couple of symbols for letters and you're set. No codebreaker will ever defeat it. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: keberoxu Date: 18 Aug 24 - 02:49 PM Bumping her back upstairs for now. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: keberoxu Date: 24 Aug 24 - 07:02 PM Ahem. This is her Daughter, as opposed to MOAB herself. The latter seems to be in permanent crash mode. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 25 Aug 24 - 09:43 AM Like mother, like daughter. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 30 Aug 24 - 02:59 PM MOAB has a tough time competing with the realtime BS going on in our political landscape. She's feeling a bit abandoned. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: keberoxu Date: 03 Sep 24 - 02:11 PM Another boost upward for Moab's daughter. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: keberoxu Date: 05 Sep 24 - 03:08 PM For president? I guess you could do worse than a president who crashes periodically. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 07 Sep 24 - 10:57 AM Mom's kid Amos Jessup for President! |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: keberoxu Date: 12 Sep 24 - 04:13 PM I'm surprised there isn't any BS over here from the presidential debates ... |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: keberoxu Date: 14 Sep 24 - 03:38 PM There must be a witty post one could put on this thread about the eating of dogs and cats (see: second presidential debate), but I can't come up with it myself for some reason. I suppose because I don't think it's all that funny. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: keberoxu Date: 17 Sep 24 - 07:12 PM It's been a long time since any BS from Donuel appeared here. At least Rapparee is still at large. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 18 Sep 24 - 01:25 PM Yes, I am still around. Yesterday I gave a class (Life-Long Learning sort of thing) entitled something like "Riverboats, Steamboats, and the Growth of America." It went okay, and I even got applause because I didn't sing anything. I went on for 90 minutes, and talked to about 60 people if you count the Zoomers. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Sep 24 - 01:41 PM Good job! Did this involve actually going to the river or getting onto a boat? MOM would love that! |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: keberoxu Date: 21 Sep 24 - 04:36 PM Librarians rule! |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 22 Sep 24 - 08:37 PM The river that flows here is the Mighty and Powerful Portneuf, which sometimes carries enough water to float a stick (the story that a betrayed young maiden decided to throw herself from a bridge and end it all but only sprained her ankle when she landed is a folktale). So no, we didn’t even visit Mink Creek or Pocatello Creek. I, however, grew up on the banks and water of the Upper River and have steamboated from St. Paul to Nawlins, as well as being personally involved with the Hudson, Potomac, Columbia, Tehana, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, Tombigbee, Yazoo, intercostal waterway, St. Lawrence River and Seaway, and other such waters. Mostly it was putting a bunch of stuff together in a way that made it interesting. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 23 Sep 24 - 08:05 PM I have a secret about doing this sort of thing. I figure that if it's interesting to me it's probably interesting to others. So I can use presenting a class as a reason to research something and buy books about it. Like a few years ago when I did a class on "Pandemics Of The Past" for this sort of thing. COVID was going on and there was all sorts of talk about whether or not it was real, if it was dangerous, and if so what did people do about such things as plagues in times gone by. I became interested and did some research and put together a presentation on past epidemics. Most of the audience was by Zoom but it seemed to be well received. I got a question about the title of one, "The Recent Crime Wave in Idaho, 1840 to 1910" but I answered that it's just a nanosecond ago in geologic time. AND I got to look up the crooks, and there were a lot of them. |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 27 Sep 24 - 10:15 AM No, not Agnes. Her name was Clementine and her daddy was a miner and she raised ducklings to help with the family bills. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: MaJoC the Filk Date: 27 Sep 24 - 11:17 AM Apologies, Rap: my thoughts had flown to the gnarly-county part of Carpe Jugulum. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: MaJoC the Filk Date: 27 Sep 24 - 11:34 AM Oh, and our local river occasionally has enough water to float a stick, but we wouldn't be able to tell the stick from the sewage by colour. It's even worse than the Ankh, especially in high summer. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 28 Sep 24 - 06:09 PM Believe it or don’t, but our drinking water is pumped from the aquifer. It is minimally treated for nitrates (farming and ranching country), examined and treated for waterborne pathogens, and pumped to the city. Very little treatment overall. The mountains act as a natural filter as the stuff soaks to the aquifer. On the other hand, slurping down some from a creek up in the hills will almost certainly guarantee you a case of giardiasis or worse. |
Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: Rapparee Date: 30 Sep 24 - 07:42 PM Mom! Tell her to get up there and stay up there! |

Subject: RE: MOAB's Daughter (of all BS) part 3 From: keberoxu Date: 10 Oct 24 - 04:19 PM A dispatch from the Mudcat Tavern for the Bewildered links to a story from the Scottish Highlands that a herd of special cattle is to be located close to Loch Ness. Maybe the Loch Ness Monster will come out and devour them. |
