Humble suggestion: Is it possible to arrange for the Old Thread to be viewed one page at a time, eg by using the link-to-first-page links on the index page, while keeping the full thread closed? I'm fully aware I'm flouting my own "don't say JUST" rule here, as there'll doubtless be some severe magic underneath each such link which needs no further complication.

.... Or did I suggest that before?

It was! But I think that what happens is that trolls or whoever does DNS stuff open it several times in a row and that ties up the Mudcat bandwidth. If you go to your own posts and look for those that went to the MOAB you can see it piecemeal. There are ways. . . I suggested to Max that he probably needed to pull the plug if we want to use the rest of the site.

Brunch and dinner today, then to St. Louie and fly back. The reunion was fun, saw relatives I hadn’t seen in years. Gluon showed up, of course, and tried to hump Ziggy (a pug) who objected vociferously.   No fights, no real excitement like in the past. The only cops who showed up were retired family members.

Oh, I was there. There were gallups, scottishes, waltzes, minuets — the usual. No reels, horn pipes, or other vulgar displays. Almost everyone kept most of their clothing on and arranged, and there was no knifings or shooting. Oh, a couple of the young bloods drew out on the veranda but that was quickly squelched and their rapiers broken. All in all, a nice affair with no chimp-howler monkey hybrids present.

The groom is, after all, a game warden in Wisconsin.

Fireworks are not for amateurs, that's for sure.

Four of us did something new on the 4th - parked on the rooftop of a hospital parking garage and watched fireworks from all over the city - some amateur, some pro, some quite near and some a few miles away.

There were about 50 people there. It was fun to watch the reflections of the nearby fireworks in the hospital windows. Even modern glass had waves or imperfections in it that made a sea change in the display.

One of the Legion-Wannabees got into a gunfight with a Ranger at Yellowstone. The Ranger will recover from his wounds, the Wannabee won't. Since he was never a member of the Legion he won't be remembered even after the NPS releases his name. The Ranger, on the other hand, is being toasted even as I type this.

Apparently some ne're-do-wells in Pocatello got reckless with fireworks yesterday and started a brush fire DOWNHILL from a bunch of houses. The FD evacuated several of the homes and folks couldn't return for some hours. The FD also was very, very grateful to the goddess of the wind for not doing her usual thing and blowing her wind uphill, as that could have wiped out a whole neighborhood not too far from where we live. That would have also taken out Big Lots, Ridley's Supermarket, and AAA Office -- not to mention sparks and cinders blowing across and setting fire the the local Fire Station. If captured the FD will offer at least one of the reckless ones to the wind goddess as a suitable sacrifice.

We had wonderful thunderstorms today - too bad they didn't arrive around dusk yesterday, it might have dampened some of the ardour for setting off explosive devices for many hours.

Gosh whiz, we're under a THUNDERSTORM WATCH for about 2 1/2 more hours! And a high wind advisory until tomorrow evening, so I couldn't take my sailboat out on the reservoir if I had a sailboat! It's about 80 degrees F. outside! I don't know if I can take all this much longer!

Heavens, I don’t know how much longer I can stand this heat! It’s already 75°F with a blue sky and light clouds! And people towing trailers zoom along with the safety chains dangling, causing sparks that start fires along the interstates.

Gluon will do most anything for a Higgs Boson Biscuit. I bribed with one to move the weather south, meaning Utah, and Gluon got overexcited.

Now I get to visit and electrocardiologist AND VA psychiatrist (to determine if I’m as nuts as people think, I guess).

Next Monday we’re off to see Dylan — sorry, Dillon. The town In Montana, not the Bob or the Thomas. This four day trip is my practice trip for two weeks in July when my youngest nephew, the Wisconsin Rabbit Ranger, gets married in Champagne — er, Champaign (the town in Illinois, not the drink).

We've had so much rain in Texas this year we've almost reached last year's total half-way through this year. 27.5" as of two days ago (it rained again last night) and last year we got 29.3". No wonder there are weird mushrooms popping up all over the place. Now where was this rain supposed to end up? We need to have Gluon give the jet stream a shove and move it over some.

I expect Donuel back any time now. He seems to have taken a vacation from Mudcat (well, after the block was lifted a couple of weeks ago he can have come back.)

When he does return, he needs to spend more time in MOAB and the family threads.
