In 1939, he was in the chorus of the short-lived Broadway musical John Henry that starred Paul Robeson.
Blues singer Josh White was also a cast member and later invited Rustin to join his gospel and vocal harmony group Josh White and the Carolinians. Rustin was in the chorus backing JOSH WHITE in
the 1940 Columbia records album CHAIN GANG.

BAYARD Rustin, civil rights leader, and architect of the 1963 March
on Washington for Jobs and Freedom recorded two 10-inch LPs for
the FELLOWSHIP of RECONCILIATION in the early 1950.

The LPs are scarce, but have been re-incarnated on cassette and CD.

The most recent is on PARNASSUS which has also issued other interesting CDs in their BLACK SWANS series.
