Brought this up with the drama director (that previously needed Renaissance songs) she said, "Oh, yes, that one is easy" and then proceeded to rattle off a whole list of Broadway musicals and then their "original titles." Only one that stuck in my brain was "Lileth" = "Carosel"

Well, this was one question that I knew the answer to but as usual, I tuned in too late to answer. Don't bother trying to find the song, "Green Grow the Lilacs" in the musical, though, because it isn't in the musical.

I'm impresed twice, for Jeri finding the site, and for the person getting the answer, although I suppose Jeopardy participants are the Trivia R Us folks.

Very GOOD Jeri....I can now pursue the rest of my day with a less foggy mind than I started with. Musical Plays = Green Grow The Lilacs = Oklahoma!!! Like Gargoyle, I would have never made the connection. From what I remember of the movie, the play should have died on stage!!!

This web page states that a play by Lynn Riggs titled "Green Grow The Lilacs" was the basis for the musical "Oklahoma."

It's been so long since I was dragged to that movie by an aunt that I can scarcely remember it. The song is in the DT...type in "green lilac" (without the qoute marks) to see it. None of the words give a clue either! Garg, if you find an answer, please share it with us because now we are wondering too! I do know that being 'forced' to sit through that movie helped build my dislike for musicals, although I love 'The Sound of Music'. Maybe because you expect music from the title of it.

Does seem a bit of a stretch, but that's popular culture.

I'll write the show....

Neither the question nor answer made any sense.

Hmmm, all I can think of is that awful song in Oklahoma (intentionally so( where they're talking about the daisys in the dell giving off a different smell now that poor Jud Fry is underneath the ground. There may well be something about Lilacs in it too. Doesn't appear to be in the database. Rats!

PLEASE....explain....

In the U.S.A. we have a "game show" called "Jeopardy" where the answer is given first and the "question" is given by the contestant....one of the final questions in the category of "musical plays" was....

Green Grow the the Lilacs"

The answer was, ,,,,,"Oklahoma"......

How the......does this match up?????

As with most things in life...I am clueless....but to this, I am totally lost....

Please explain.
