Subject: Thought for the day - January 21, 2000 From: katlaughing Date: 22 Jan 00 - 12:20 AM Wenn es eine Freude ist das Gute zu geniessen, so ist es eine grössere das Bessere zu empfinden, und in der Kunst ist das Beste gut genug. Since it is a joy to have the benefit of what is good, it is a greater one to experience what is better, and in art the best is good enough. Goethe:Italienische Reise |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day - January 21, 2000 From: katlaughing Date: 22 Jan 00 - 01:07 AM Sorry, PeterT, I put the wrong date in this one. It should read Jan. 22, for Saturday! Maybe if a editor notices they will kindly change it. |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day - January 21, 2000 From: Little Neophyte Date: 22 Jan 00 - 08:19 AM This makes me think of gratitude. When I appreciate what I have, anything more seems like a win fall. Focusing on things being 'good enough' can really lighten up the load and make the journey much more fun. BB |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day - January 21, 2000 From: Peter T. Date: 22 Jan 00 - 01:02 PM And Goethe's Italian Journey is the best of the best. If you have never read it, treat yourself. A young man discovering Italy at the end of 18th century. Some good editions also have the terrific erotic poetry -- the Roman Elegies and the Venetian Epigrams (some so filthy they only made it into print in the last 20 years). Thanks for the quote, kat: reminds me to go and get the books out again!! yours, Peter T. |
