...at Shrewsbury folk festival this year including Elkie Brooks

I love Elkie (Salford Lass you know!) And it's good to see her still doing her stuff :-) Looks a great festival "featuring folk music, blues, Americana and world music." I am very tempted but it clashes with Whitby :-(

We've been to Shrewsbury many times (did the first twenty festivals!) and loved it.
Not so keen on the new layout post COVID (though understand the reasoning). Instead of three marquees there is now a main open air stage which is at the far end of the site from the other main stages. So if the artists you want to see are across all three stages it's more difficult to get around - especially as you have to carry your chairs! We were lucky the year that we went with this new arrangement that almost everyone we wanted to see was on the open air stage and it didn't rain.
We'll only be going again when the line up is truly exceptional (in terms of our tastes) but it is very well organised, friendly and has fabulous bars so I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind risking being rained on.

I saw Elkie with Vinegar Joe in 1972. Her voice was phenomenal. I thought she was the sexiest woman I had ever laid eyes upon in those days. I was working as a part-time roadie for Argent (and occasionally Status Quo), so I saw them all for free.

Me too, Dick, but what does it have to do with anything at all? Her being a Salford lass was a pasing comment, not an invitation to a fight.

Nick - me too! What a presence she had and, I guess, still has. Did you know her uncle (I think) was the club owner involved in the battle of Bamber Bridge in WW2? But that's for a different thread too :-)

Who wants to fight? my remark was not meant as an invtation to fight, more curiosity as to why being a Salford lass was important.

I just said, Dick, "Her being a Salford lass was a pasing comment". It isn't important and I was not making a big thing of it. There is no deep meaningful reason for me saying it. It is the sort of thing I do. OK?

we've been going to shrewsbury festival since the much - missed trowbridge village pump finished about 12-15 years ago. shrewsbury is very comfortable and easy for the older festival goer. there is always something good to see, and very often it's the bands you've never heard of, so the headliners aren't too important. it's always good for the dogs too- particularly greyhounds and lurchers, though sadly our Rosa has died so we'll miss her this year.
