Any one know the lyrics to Cast Iron Hague. Song about an Oldham boxer.
Drawn a blank on song searches so far.

Haven't found a song, just 1 verse of poetry: Here

Several mentions elsewhere for the boxer, but all seem to give the nickname as 'Iron' Hague. If you're including 'cast iron' in your search it might be restricting the 'hits' you get.
Cheers

C Stuart Cook,

Do you have any verses which could help with the search?

To add to CND above:
Where did you hear it? (location geographic)
When? (decade)
How? (recording/radio/live/etc)
Why? (curious, rights, contract)

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

How do you know about Mudcat?

google netherlands brings up - the subject we have been sent on a holiday scavenger hunt for:

James William "Iron" Hague (6 November 1885 – 18 August 1951) was a heavyweight boxer from Yorkshire.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Very disappointed ... I was expecting this to be about the judge, and city, Vlad will confront soon.

It suddenly infected me as an earworm.

Oh he’s a Bonny lad, Cast Irons a Champion
Oh he’s a Bonny lad Cast Iron Hague

They say he was expelled from school
For breaking each and every rule ………….

That’s as much of it that comes out of my addled brain.

I’m now thinking it was a Tony Capstick song.

No luck finding it here, even with the Capstick suggestion. Was it live, or recorded?

It will have been live or maybe on a radio prog.

Based on all your comments so far, I doubt this is the case, but could it be either Bendigo The Champion by David & Toni Arthur or Champion Jack by the Strawbs? Two of the very few British boxing songs I've heard.

Otherwise, no dice.

There was a radio ballad called THE FIGHT GAME. MacColl Seeger and Charles Parker, could it be anything to do with that

Iron Hague, a relation of mine obviously going back a few years. From Mexborough. One of my family had a photo of him catching the train to London for one of the title fights, A huge man in his flat cap surrounded by many many smaller guys in their caps…very Yorkshire
