I'm trying to find the words for a song written in the early 70s. I only remember the chorus, which is:

Teesside is beautiful I'll have you to know
And the coals from South Durham make the blast furnaces glow
It's wonderful to see though the smoke's in your eyes
The flames from the oil refineries as they light up the skies.

One of the verses began:

Thank you Mr Edward Heath you're a very nice chap

And ended

But don't smile on South Durham or your teeth will turn black.

I was wondering if it was by one of the many Teesside Fettlers. I first heard it sung in London in 77 by someone who went to clubs in the Stockton area but can't remember the lyrics either after all these years! He was a big fan of the great Peter Bond, similar humour to some of Peter's songs, but not by him.

Thanks for the suggestions. It was one of those humorous protest songs that area did so well. Hopefully someone will recognise it though it's a period piece now!

a parody you say? there are hundreds of Irish songs proclaiming the beauties and joys of some of the most Godforsaken spots on the planet- there are many examples- is that what you mean?

How serious does one take 'In praise of the beautiful city of Mullingar'?

And what's wrong with lovely Drumsnot?
