Anyone that visited Whitby folk festival week in the earlier days and after EFDSS had stopped organising will have probably known Malcolm's name

He was well know as a club organiser in Hull ~ as well as Whitby ~
His death will no doubt come as a shock to many

RIP Malcolm and condolence to family and friends

Ray

Richard Spencer gave me this sad news yesterday. Mally and I had a lot of time for Malcolm, and I was pleased to spend time with him and Judy in Aberdeen a year or so ago. He was a man who spoke plainly and stuck to his guns. He was also reliable and supportive of the performers he valued. We will all miss him. RIP and thank you Malcolm.

It's always sad to lose an advocate of folk music. He made a good contribution to our music and will be rightly remembered. I have added his name to the "In Memoriam" thread and send my condolences to all those who know and love him.

RIP

Often saw him at Whitby Folk Week, where he was known as Mr Whitby by some. Many artists over on Facebook acknowledging how he first brought them to the festival.
I didn’t really know him personally but had a wee conversation with him on another thread just a couple of weeks back.

Malcolm, life was never boring with you! We will miss your reminiscences and old tapes at Whitby this year.

Malcolm’s Story

The funny thing about growing old, It’s not as funny as I was told
But each day’s different, I’m pleased to say, And life's not boring in any way!

Every morning when I awake, There’s a new place where I ache
Then a lazy breakfast comes as a perk, Instead of that regular dash to work

There’s one thing that’s better for us, We get our free pass for the bus
And on our journey into town, We get reserved seats where we sit down

I have a list of things to fix. Don’t get me started on politics!
If I don’t like your point of view, Then I’m not wasting my time with you

And though we see things through a haze, We hope we’ll still see happy days
But each day’s different, I’m pleased to say, And life's not boring in any way!

Malcolm, most of the words are your own! Tune; O’Carolan’s Fanny Power fits very well, though the first part may be enough.

But I can see you doing it as a rap!

Not sure I have that much energy these days Henry.

However I might be able to manage a Hitchcock type walk on in either the stage or film version!

I recall meeting Malcolm one evening at Padstow in "The Golden Lion". He joined us and we spent a very amicable night together. I know he will be missed by family and the music fraternity of Whitby and beyond.

Malcolm, along with two others, Graham Pirt and Ed Wilkinson rescued the Festival when EFDSS gave up running it.
It was a long time ago and i apologise if i have the names wrong. But without Malcolm there would not be a festival now IMO

By all accounts on Facebook, his funeral was a very fitting tribute to him, with lots of great singing, both in Selby Abbey, and afterwards at the Drax Community Centre.

My Apologies
In 1982 Grahame Binless handed the festival over to Trevor Stone and Graham Pirt. It was almost due to finish, because of financial difficulties, and they managed to build it up over the next two years before they handed over to Malcolm Storey, Ed Jenkinson and Martin Bull. It was when Malcolm Storey resigned that Chris Sugden (Sid Kipper) and Graham Pirt called a meeting and they formed a committee that continues with different personel to this day.
Malcolm, still played a very important role.

Selby Abbey is a beautiful Abbey, with stunning stone masonry and carving. The service was very moving. The singing was exemplary. There was a who's who of the folk world, at the service and later at Drax, where we talked not only of Malcolm, but also of the future. It was of course sad to lose Malcolm, but heart-warming to see so many friends. If you believe Malcolm was watching and with us all, he would have enjoyed the day. RIP Malcolm.
