Subject: Song Lyrics and Carrie Underwood. From: GUEST,saulgoldie Date: 19 Jan 25 - 09:23 AM So folks are upset about Carrie Underwood's playing for the inauguration. And it reminded me of other country music controversies. Now, for many of us, she is not too consequential, and she is easy to ignore. (Of course, there was that cheating song. But her sentiment about cheating does not seem to translate to her feelings about *rump.) But back a ways, "The Dixie Chicks" (now "The Chix") said that GW Bush made them ashamed to be from Texas. And the country world erupted in anger. And country stations dropped their music like a hot potato. To my mind, playing for the orange menace is on a much higher level of whatever it is we are measuring than a mere comment. But there you have it. And in other news, hows come the song by Garth Brooks (from a while back) doesn't seem to have gotten much BIG comment? The song, "We Shall Be Free" Like this: "When the last child cries, for a crust of bread When the last man dies, for just words that he said When there's shelter over, the poorest head We shall be free" I thought it was a great song, 'specially from the country music world. It's pretty "peace, love, and understanding." In other words, "woke." But I don't remember the country world saying anything about this, much less dropping him. Anyway... Saul |
