Subject: RE: Harry Webb and Water is wide From: GUEST,Steve Shaw Date: 20 Jan 25 - 05:38 AM Childish and annoying, Dick. |
Subject: RE: Harry Webb and Water is wide From: Backwoodsman Date: 20 Jan 25 - 07:33 AM I completely agree, Steve. ”In 1980, Richard officially changed his name, by deed poll, from Harry Rodger Webb to Cliff Richard.” - Wikipedia; ‘Cliff Richard’. So what’s your point, Sandman? |
Subject: RE: Harry Webb and Water is wide From: The Sandman Date: 20 Jan 25 - 08:14 AM its about his interpretation of the song/ what do you think of it? I was not aware he had officially changed his name. Steve Shaw If you find it annoying you can ask joe offer to change it to cliff richard,I do not mind. |
Subject: RE: Harry Webb and Water is wide From: Doug Chadwick Date: 20 Jan 25 - 08:56 AM Sandman, you made a reference to this song and singer back in August 2021, only that time you called him Cliff Pilchard. As you have used this less than polite name for him on several other occasions, I find it difficult to believe that, this time, you are trying to encourage an accademic discussion on the merits of his interpretation of the song. Subject: RE: Harry Webb and Water is wide From: Backwoodsman Date: 20 Jan 25 - 09:13 AM So what do you think of it, Sandman? I suppose that, as performances by moderately-passable pop-singers of traditional songs go, I guess it’s **OK** and acceptable to his fans, but not a patch on many others - this one by Niamh Parsons, for instance, is in a different league AFAIC. |
Subject: RE: Harry Webb and Water is wide From: The Sandman Date: 20 Jan 25 - 09:22 AM His diction is clear. |
Subject: RE: Harry Webb and Water is wide From: The Sandman Date: 20 Jan 25 - 02:28 PM Perhaps it is an example of not trying to sing something that is of a different genre, can you imagine Louis Armstrong singing this song. YES, i think Niamdh sings if better |
Subject: RE: Harry Webb and Water is wide From: GUEST,Steve Shaw Date: 20 Jan 25 - 03:12 PM It's not an example of not trying to sing something that is of a different genre. Oh, I give up... |
Subject: RE: Harry Webb and Water is wide From: The Sandman Date: 20 Jan 25 - 04:47 PM He sings in tune and his diction is clear he sings in an attempted usa accent, there appears to be a key change half way through the song which i do not think works stylistically, neither do i think the orchestration works stylistically. |
Subject: RE: Harry Webb and Water is wide From: The Sandman Date: 21 Jan 25 - 04:38 AM Then there is the point that Cliff may have introduced a some of his fans to trad song |
