I am running some workshops in schools and will be using traditional British or American folk songs as a basis for a theme about friends and family. So far I am thinking of adapting some sea shanties i.e. Windy Old weather, haul away Joe, Bold Riley and using the chorus. I am also thinking of connections between people and doing some songs about weaving. I would really appreciate any other ideas people can give me,

Windy old weather was a work song, to be precise a net hauling song.
Broton Town, is a song about Family.

Thanks Jack for some extra ideas. Thanks sandman. Yes I was aware that the sea shanties are work songs but they still have a message about pulling together in this windy old weather etc so it could be used as the basis for song writing about friendship. I will look up broton town, thank you for that idea

I'm sure you don't mine if I suggest one from Canada. Here is one I usually close my show with. From Newfoundland by Shanneyganock with Bud Davidge.
