Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Os Liostail me le sairsint From: GUEST,Neil Comer Date: 27 Jan 00 - 11:45 AM I have absolutely no idea how to provide you with the tune on the Internet. However, the song is the great new album from Maighreád and Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Idir an Dá Sholas ( Between the two lights) published by Hummingbird Records, 35 Harcourt Street, Dublin 2 |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Os Liostail me le sairsint From: ST Date: 03 Aug 22 - 12:56 PM Ummm... Precious. Could anybody kindly provide a translation, please? Google Translate's 'tell my base I'm safe' makes that whole AI thing kind of unreliable. I've been in love with this song from the moment I heard it (performed by Lá Lugh, no less) but not knowing what the lyrics actually mean takes a lot of craic out of it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Os Liostail me le sairsint From: Felipa Date: 03 Aug 22 - 05:09 PM meaning, more or less: I enlisted with a sergeant, alas I went overseas, for I was young and without sense I got guns and a sharp sword And I thought that was better than [staying in] County Mayo If you ever go to Connacht, go till you reach the new island tell my people that I am sorrowful that I am sick and exhausted without anyone I can call on and I am thinking and dreaming of the County Mayo I have long clay pipes and tobacco to fill them with a bottle of whiskey, and plenty of porter a bed of green rushes for my darling to lie in and permission to stretch out till morning with my lovely brown-haired lass Isn't it fine to see the soldiers and to hear the flutes of the big town rising out in the morning, their nice ladies with them Their bayonets under their arms and them all making music and if you see them going overseas, oh Lord, and I not along with them. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Os Liostail me le sairsint From: leeneia Date: 05 Aug 22 - 01:21 PM The tune is not on abcnotation.com or at The Session, but if you go to YouTube, there are two videos of it, and maybe people could transcribe it. It might be on some other Irish music site, but I am not up to date on those. |
