"Nothin' could be sweeter, than my sweetie when I greet her in the mooooorning!"

(The crowd chimes in, bleary-eyed and sentimental).

Alright, Miss Caitrin, I was only offering my services as a gentleman. Just remember to watch your caboose! I'm gonna sing everyone something, now.

I see the lonely road that leads so far away
I see the distant lights that left behind the day
But what I see is so much more than I can say
And I see you in midnight blue.

I see you crying, now you've found a lot of pain
And what you're searching for can never be the same
But what's the difference, 'cos they say "What's in a name?"
And I see you in midnight blue.

I will love you tonight
And I will stay by your side
Loving you, I'm feeling midnight blue

I see you standing there, far out along the way
I want to touch you, but the night becomes the day
I count the words that I am never gonna say
And I see you in midnight blue.

Can't you feel the love that I'm offering you?
Can't you see how it's meant to be?
Can't you hear the words that I'm saying to you?
Can't you believe like I believe?
It's only one and one, it's true
Still, I see you in midnight blue

I see beautiful days
And I feel beautiful ways of loving you
Everything's midnight blue.

Suddenly the front door flies open, and a stream of blue uniforms flows in...

The USS Arizona is in port, and the sailors are out on shore leave...

(I bet you thought it was the cops!)

Oh, criminetalies, there goes the neighborhood. Who let the swabbies in here? No offense Dave. Just that these damn sailors will give the place the air of a Bowery Dive in no time.

And kiddo, I'm packing no heat. Where'd you get a crazy idea like that? No need for firearms in this fine company, purely the horse and buggy trade here. Say kid, do you know the tune You Made me Love You? It's really the cat's meow. Or anything by Johnny Mercer.

Dave, I'll get $10 a case for that hooch, that's 18 grand. And you want 10 grand to bring it? I'll pay you two thousand up front, 4 thousand on delivery- that's six grand for two day's work. Hard to beat, my friend.

Thats what I get for my home made hooch, But I'll take it you got any objections to seeing what they will pay in Chicago for the next load? I think you will get more profit and I'll broker a deal for a small cut? say 10% of the profit difference? These sailors are going to have fun here, but just watch out fer trouble when it comes with these guys its usually in tons and all hands get involved.

Did you notice their uniforms, and the bars on their sleeves?

They're all officers, and there's the Captain, Barnacle Bill.

"My name is Me. I'm home from the sea. says Barnacle Bill the Sailor."

Don't you worry yourself 'bout me, Mbo. I appreciate the concern, though. : )

Alright, Lonesome. Since you've managed to leave the heat at home for once, I'll sing some Johnny Mercer for ya. : ) I don't know "You made me love you", though. You heard "Something's Gotta Give"? It's one o' my favorite Mercer tunes.

When an irresistible force such as you
Meets an old immovable object like me,
You can bet as sure as you live,
Something's gotta give, something's gotta give,
Something's gotta give.
When an irrepressible smile such as yours
Warms an old implacable heart such as mine,
Don't say no because I insist
Somewhere, somehow, someone's gonna be kissed.
So, en garde, who knows what the Fates have in store,
From their vast mysterious sky?
I'll try hard ignoring those lips I adore,
But how long can anyone try?
Fight, fight, fight, fight, fight it with all of our might,
Chances are some heavenly star spangled night,
We'll find out as sure as we live,
Something's gotta give, something's gotta give,
Something's gotta give.

Whew...just sailors. For a sec there, I thought we was about ta get a raid!

Mbo M'boy you should be dancin with Caitrin before one of these US (unservicable) Matelots trys a pass at her... Dont worry about the Navy guys they only pretend to be tough, they just want some fun and booze like us. They usually keep it civil unless provoked.. of course if the drunk over there dont watch out he might just piss off the wrong guy that is a US Marine and they dont have as good a sense of humour as us Matelots...Excuse me boys I'm just gonna stand by that gorgeous singer and bite anyone that attempts to hurt her. I wanna another song anyway shes a great singer as well as cute....Hey darlin anyone gets rough with you they will be really sorry tonight....Hey pal I'm a British Merchant Mariner you know the ones they warn you about... yes thats right you can fight the marines the Royal Navy and all the bloody Pongo's you like but I'm one of the guys the chiefy told you not to play with...Leave the lady alone unless she wants to dance with ye??

(Thinks to self) (...That Dave, now, there's one who knows how to take a tack that will fill the sails with wind indeed. Musta picked it up in da Navy or da hoosegow, one or the other; sure carries on like a sailor, though. Now that should be an old expression! Maybe if I spread it around now, it'll become one before my grandkids grow up. Mebbe I'll try throwin some bread on the waters an' see what takes....) (Aloud) That Dave, he really carries on like a sailor, don't he though? That's what my old ma used ta call it. Carries on just like a sailor, yes sir..!

This is the springtime of my loving - the second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing - so little warmth I've felt before.
It isn't hard to feel me glowing - I watched the fire that grew so low.

It is the summer of my smiles - flee from me Keepers of the Gloom.
Speak to me only with your eyes. It is to you I give this tune.
Ain't so hard to recognize - These things are clear to all from time to time.

Talk Talk - I've felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought it would ever go. I cursed the gloom that set upon us...
But I know that I love you so

These are the seasons of emotion and like the winds they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion - I see the torch we all must hold.
This is the mystery of the quotient - Upon us all a little rain must fall.

Amos, glad yer mother warned you about sailors mate. Saves lot of expensive doctorin and surgery later in life...Hoosegow, shit! I've known most from Shanghai to Bombay, Chicago to new Orleans, London. Liverpool, Hong Kong and a few places I cannot pronounce. They's like a second home to me...And I am a sailor, been one since the day I was born. These fellows are a good bunch, most of the ones I get for crew have just been kicked out of jail, or are on the Lam. Why dont you come over and visit my ship tomorrow; she's the SS Lancastrian.

Hey JenEllen love, why dont you get that piano player, and get up on stage? come on break a few more mens hearts with one of your sad songs.

The sailor wanders back to the table and sit down with LEJ well mate what do you think? two runs a month and we will make a tidy profit..what do you say?

Now, MBo writes a mighty tune! Away, the Mudcat!
To save hisself from the Keep of Gloom! We're away upon the Mudcat!

Cho.

Now the Mudcat sails beyond the law!Away, the Mudcat!
With Pirate Dave and Curmudgeon Spaw! We're away upon the Mudcat!

O, Sailor Dave he keeps the chart. Away, the Mudcat!
But Caitrin keeps young Mbo's heart! We're away upon the Mudcat!

O, the Figurehead is Lady Kat! Away, the Mudcat! So sailors what d'ye think o' that? We're away upon the Mudcat!

Oh, the Mudcat saves them folkies' souls. Away, the Mudcat!
An' Spaw he saves up possum holes! We're away upon the Mudcat!

Mudcat she weathers any blow! Away, the Mudcat!
With Max aloft, and LEJ below! We're away upon the Mudcat!

So hoist her up, and cast her off! Away, the Mudcat!
We're on the bar! Send Joe aloft! We're away upon the Mudcat!

Cho: Away upon the Mudcat! The Mudcat schooner, O!
That Mudcat takes you anywhere, that you would want to go!

Fondly tendered to the folkie sailors of the world, who sail the Mudcat everywhere.

A.

It's a done deal, Dave! 'Away Upon The Mudcat' has joined the ranks of the famous (and infamous) other 'Cat songs in the Mudcat Songbook. See the 'Thread Songs' category.

Well done, Amos -- When yer hot, yer hot!

An' if anyone asks, was ye ever at sea?
You can say, "Three times 'round the Horn!"
You can tell them that you've been a sailor lad
Since the day that you was born.

Hope these city folks don't take exception to a little salt in their hooch!

Well, when it gets too serious the machinery slows down something awful, Mbo, as I am sure you know -- your own talents bubble something mighty fine, but don't you hate it when you feel pressured to produce something?

Thnaks for the kind thoughts. Putch ameeshriated. (Oh, sorry --- wrong thread).
