Cindy has a songbook out; I'm guessing that one is in it. You can hear an mp3 of part of the song (enough to learn the tune) at Timberhead Music.

Dan Schatz

TIDE AND THE RIVER RISING
Words & Music by Cindy Kallet
(c)1989 Stone's Throw Music, BMI

Chorus:
Come on get your oars and row, darling
Come on get your oars and row
We've got tide and the river rising
Come on get your oars and row

Come up on your feet and walk, my baby
Rise up on your feet and walk
We've got arms reaching out to catch you
Haul up on those feet and walk

In the morning call my name, my darling
In the morning call my name
We grow old, young; we birth, we die
And somehow rearrange

Some live and change the world with grace
And a vision and a strength of mind
Some rise from trouble, some lend a hand
And some keep trying to find

Watch that little boy go walking, my lover
Watch him as he learns to run
Watch him as he rounds the corner out of sight
Then tumbling back into our arms he comes

When it's time to say goodbye, my darling
When it's time to say goodbye
We'll live on in the old and the young ones
Dreaming down a quiet line

After not having heard of her for years, I saw Cindy Kallett at the Off The Square Coffee house in Keene, NH last night. She was absolutely wonderful. Her songs are funny and soulful and her voice is clear and gently powerful. If you get a chance to hear Cindy, don't waste it!

If anyone has the lyrics and/or chords to her lovely "Tide And the River Rising", I'd be eternally grateful

Thanks everyone, glad you could help. I heard it from a recording by John McCormick, one of my favorite singers around. Glad to know it's author now. Thanks for the music links too, I'm going to check it out now

Robin

Kath to the rescue! Just to be sure, I went to check that the song was "Dreaming Down a Quiet Line," and you provided the information before I got back. Yup, it's another CD (or cassette) available from Folk-Legacy. Click here. Hope that works. If you use our e-mail order blank, be sure to mention that it's a Mudcat order, so that the 'Cat gets credit.

Sandy

The song is actually called "Dreaming Down a Quiet Line," and is recorded on a CD and cassette of the same name (self-published by Cindy, I believe). Folk-Legacy, which produced Cindy's first and second recordings ("Working on Wings to Fly" and "Cindy Kallet 2") distributes "Dreaming..." as well. Check with Sandy Paton or go to Folk-Legacy's website. You can also order the duo recording, "Neighbors," that Cindy did with Gordon Bok. It's a winner!

That is written and recorded by Cindy Kallet, and is on her second album (which I believe is simply titled "Kallet 2"). You're right, it is a great song; I sing it to my toddler frequently. Here's an attempt from memory; I'm not sure of the order of the middle verses, as I tend to sing it in random order...I'm curious, where did you hear it?

(ch)Come on, get your oars and row
My darling, come on, get your oars and row
We've got tide and the river rising
Come on, get your oars and row.

Rise up on your feet and walk,
My darling, rise up on your feet and walk
We've got arms reaching out to catch you
Haul up on those feet and walk.

In the morning call my name,
My darling, in the morning call my name
We grow old, young, we birth, we die,
And somehow rearrange.

Some live and change the world
With grace and a vision and a strength of mind.
Some rise from trouble, some lend a hand;
And some keep trying to find...

Watch that little boy go walking,
My lover, and watch him as he learns to run.
Watch him as he rounds the corner out of sight,
And tumbling back in our arms he comes.

When it's time to say goodbye,
My darling, when it's time to say goodbye,
We'll live on in the old and young ones
Dreaming down a quiet line...

I'm looking for a tune that I'm not sure of the title, but the first verse goes;

Come on get your oars and row, Darlin Come on get your oars and row We got tide, and the river risin come on get your oars and row

This is a great song! Anyone know who wrote it, and all the verses?

Thanks, Robin
