Subject: Obit: David (Dai) Woosnam, 6th July 2026 From: Backwoodsman Date: 29 Jul 26 - 12:04 PM A belated obituary thread for journalist and Folk Music enthusiast, David (Dai) Woosnam. I received the following notification from Dai’s wife, Larissa, recently… ”With great sadness, I want to tell you that David Woosnam died on the 6th of July in a road traffic accident. It appears that he lost control of the vehicle, presumably due to some acute medical event, and exited a roundabout into the path of oncoming traffic. A friend of his, Ray Oxby, who was in the car with David, is in the trauma unit in Hull with serious injuries, but is expected to survive. I really want you to know how important it was for David to know that his Daigressing was read and appreciated by you.” Dai was a proud Welshman and a true ‘character’, a long-time resident of Great Grimsby, a fount of knowledge of Folk Music, a regular judge at the ‘Write a Song For Lincolnshire’ contest held annually in the county, a frequent contributor of articles and reviews to ‘The Living Tradition’, and the author of his periodic and hugely entertaining ‘Daigressing’ email to his enormous circle of friends and contacts. Although ill-health had caused Dai to pull back on his activities to a great extent in recent years, he remained a popular and well-respected figure in Lincolnshire musical circles, and beyond. RIP Dai, you will be sadly missed. Although I didn’t know Ray Oxby, Dai’s friend injured in the accident that took Dai’s life, I’m sure everyone reading this will want to send him best wishes for a full recovery from his injuries.
