Subject: Origins: Found piece of music From: GUEST,Astron Date: 10 Sep 26 - 12:00 AM I've found sheet music from R. P. Weston and Bert Lee of a song called Love-Birds. I googled it and was shown this website so I'm sorry if I miss understood the purpose of the site. I have almost all of the lyrics and the sheet music. I don't know if what I found is rare or needed for archive. I'm a normal person who found this site so I don't really know the next steps I should take. |

Subject: RE: Origins: Found piece of music From: Helen Date: 10 Sep 26 - 02:00 AM I couldn't find the song in this thread but there are a lot of songs and lyrics in it. Lyr Add: Songs and Recitations of Weston & Lee Monologue John started the thread and he may be worth contacting if anyone knows how to do that. |

Subject: RE: Origins: Found piece of music From: Joe Offer Date: 10 Sep 26 - 02:08 AM We're usually a very good place for finding songs, and we have a lot of stuff from Weston & Lee. Our expert on Weston & Lee was the delightful Monologue John Bartley, but John died in May 2025. I'm a pretty good songfinder, but I'm coming up with nothing on this one. Keep checking this thread. Sometimes it takes us years to find requested songs, but we never stop looking. If you can post what you have, that might help us a lot. Joe Offer, Mudcat Song Editor |

Subject: RE: Origin:Found piece of music-Love-birds, Weston-Lee From: Helen Date: 10 Sep 26 - 04:18 AM Thanks Joe. I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't realise that John had passed away. It would definitely help to identify more information about the song if we could see the lyrics. |

Subject: RE: Origin:Found piece of music-Love-birds, Weston-Lee From: Robert B. Waltz Date: 10 Sep 26 - 12:07 PM Weston and Lee wrote zillions of songs, and R. P. Weston also worked with other authors. They have a decent bio page at Folk Song and Music Hall: https://folksongandmusichall.com/index.php/weston-and-lee/ I don't see any hint of this particular one going into tradition; I haven't seen it, John Baxter doesn't list it, and there is at most one reference in the Roud Index. (Without seeing the song text, I can't be sure if the Roud Index item is it or not. Even a first line would help; my biggest music hall book has a first line index but no title index) My quick scan of music hall books didn't turn it up, either. So it's probably one where the music hall sites will tell more than the folk sites. :-) |

Maybe it would help if you could email me a scan of the sheet music you have. Joe Offer, Mudcat Music Editor joe@mudcat.org |

And, also FWIW, Harris Weston was R. P. Weston's son, and worked with Weston, and with Weston and Lee, in their later years. Among songs with some hint of being traditional, Harris Weston worked with his father and with Bert Lee on "You Can Feel It Doing You Good" and "Beer is Best." Also, R. P. Weston's real name was Robert Harris, so "Harris Weston" was a sort of homage to his father's real and assumed names. |

Should be “Weston-Lee-Weston.” A very early collaboration from the looks of it. 'Harris Weston' - Robert Edgar Harris (1901–1978)(Weston-super-Mare &c.)
