Yes. I know it's in the DT, but ...

Many years ago, or so the story goes, my old mate Barrie Roberts had a call from Lorna Campbell (of the Ian Campbell Folk Group) to ask if he knew the words. He recited them over the phone, but due to a combination of a bad line and hasty scrawl, when the group came to work it up, they ended up with a few mistakes. Does anyone know the correct lyrics? And can anyone tell me who wrote it?

To save you looking it up, it's the one that goes
To Hollywood, to Hollywood, to Hollywood I'll go
And you shall know me by the name of Maryilin Monroe,
And soldiers and sailors, wherever they may go,
Will wish that they could have a girl like Marylin Monroe.

Ta, Steve

Steve
Unfortunately the only words I would be able to lay my hands on would be the Ian Campbell Group ones. My mate has them in a song book. I used to sing it when busking at Hyde Park in the 60's.
Wasn't it written by the guy who edited the Folk Pages in Melody Maker back then. Sadly the cells are dropping out and the memory fades, Karl ....?.
I'll find out
Baz

Baz, do you mean Karl Dallas? Formerly Fred Dallas (when he wrote "Family of Man")

Sorry, I only know the "Lorna" version.

Rick

I may be completely wrong, but for some reason I thought that the lyrics of this were by Sidney Carter and the music by Rory McEwen??
