From Mary of Malin, to Rose of Moville
All sweet with their smiles and glad eyes filled with laughter
But sure in the end 'twas meself waiting still.

At Bay of Culdaff where the wild waves were breaking.
Carndonagh, with forest-clad mountain and hill
I sought but in vain with a heart that was aching
For one who my thoughts of a bride would fulfil.

Still 'twas back in the shade of old Barnan I found you,
That valley o'shadowed by mountains so grand,
And I prayed that good angels would ever protect you,
As I placed a keepsake on your little white hand.

And now I am stationed in County Fermanagh,
So far from my loved one and far from my home,
But when I return it will be to the dear one,
That I left in the mountains of dark Inishowen

The words are in one of Harry Swan's books - probably The Book of Innishowen (No, I've just checked " 'Twixt Foyle and Swilly" - which means Innishowen anyway. The poem is attributed to David A. Campbell. There are six four line verses. If the original poster pastes in what words he has, corrections can be made and effort minimised. However, here are the place names used - in order: Innishowen, Clonmany, Meendoran Bridge, Gap of Mamore, Mary of Malin, Rose of Moville, Bay of Culdaff, Carndonagh, old Barnan, County Fermanagh, Innishowen.

You could try out the placenames on this thread. I live near Inishowen, Co Donegal. Also I've seen the words in a book, but it was in a library and I don't know the title.

Anyone have these lyrics? same version sung by Mary Dillon of Deanta... I know most of it but am unsure of some of the place names...

In fact if it is easier just to list the place names in order, that is basically all I need...
